OHI, Campground Owners to Advocate for Swipe Fee Reform at D.C. Event
In a push for legislative change, the Outdoor Hospitality Industry (OHI) is mobilizing RV park and campground owners to attend an advocacy event in Washington, D.C., this February. The event, in partnership with the Merchant Payments Coalition, addresses the challenges small businesses face due to high credit card fees. Advocates will press U.S. Senators to support the Credit Card Competition Act, a bill introduced to reduce the dominance of Visa and 萬事達卡 by requiring major banks to offer alternative networks on their cards. This initiative, spearheaded by Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Roger Marshall, aims to alleviate financial burdens for small businesses. OHI, formerly known as the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, incentivizes participation by covering key travel expenses for attendees, emphasizing the importance of representing the interests of over 3,000 campgrounds across North America.

Glamping Pods, Cabins Proposed for Fordell Woodland Site
In an exciting development for tourism near Fordell, Green Oak Ventures has submitted a proposal to Fife Council seeking “retrospective permission” to operate a small-scale holiday business on a woodland site. The application aims to formalize the use of two glamping pods and two log cabins, alongside the addition of a storage container and solar array, aligning with Fife's tourism strategy by enhancing the region's appeal. Previously, the site was approved for family recreational use in 2021, but its transformation into the Green Oak Nature Retreat necessitates a new planning application. This move follows an approach by the Council’s Enforcement Officer after the business, which includes a short-term let license for up to 10 guests, began operations without the required commercial permissions. Positioned near the Fordell Firs Scout Campsite, the retreat offers a promising location for both active and vehicular travelers, and with the successful operation of its existing pods since mid-2024, Green Oak Ventures is optimistic about sustainable growth with additional units.
