MBA IB Internship Authorization Process
Employability and Apprenticeships University of Greenwich
Placements, Employability Advice, Mentoring - University of Greenwich
All students undertaking an MBA International Business programme (24 months) at the University of Greenwich Business School are required to undertake a 40-week (9 month) internship.
The placement must adhere to the following criteria:
· A paid or unpaid position in an international organisation
· To be in a public, private or not-for-profit sector
· Must include a managerial element (i.e. in charge of a project, team leader, supervisor, manager, etc.
· It needs to be 40 weeks (9 months) in duration
· Can be undertaken globally
· Must be a full-time position (35 hours+)
The MBA placement requirement is for 40 weeks, must be full time work (35 hours or more) and can be taken anywhere in the world; however, the student cannot work from home or self-employed. The role must have an element of managerial duties; The University of Greenwich applies the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) definition of managerial experience which is “supervision, decision-making, or management of resources. This does not mean that the job title needs the word ‘manager’.
Each internship offer will be assessed and authorised on an individual basis. Students can start from 1st September 2020, in special circumstances. The latest start date is 15th October 2020 and can only work for 40 weeks from the start date. Students will need to discuss the offer of employment with the Business School Employability Office.
Once you get an internship offer – see below the authorisation steps to follow:
Step one
Go to Moodle: BUSI-1360-M02-2020-21– Follow the guidance process –click on tab Authorisation tile and follow guidance on the tile.
Authorisation steps
1. Upload the offer letter, contract and health & safety questionnaire to the Authorising link on the Moodle page. You must wait for these to be graded with 100% and to receive the 'authorised' Moodle Badge before you start your internship.
2. Students will only have 1 re-submission opportunity to obtain authorisation. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the BSEO has all the necessary paperwork to make the authorisation decision.
3. You will be able to view your grade as soon as it is marked, so check back regularly once you've submitted.
Step two
Upload the offer letter, completed authorisation documents (contract and health & safety questionnaire) to Turnitin link Authorisation for September-October 2020. You must wait for these to be graded with 100% and to receive the 'authorised' Moodle Badge before you start your internship. You must allow a minimum of 4 working days between the submission of documents and your start date.
Step Three
Your paperwork will then be graded in TurnitIn. If there is part of your offer which does not meet the criteria, you then need to look for the symbol which will tell you what needs to change. Once your submission has 100% as the grade you will receive a Moodle Badge called ‘Authorisation badge’.
At this stage your placement is fully authorised, and you can download the contract for your reference. You are only allowed to start working when your placement is authorised.
If you are on a Tier 4 student visa, then the 20 hour a week limit applies until you start your authorised placement.
