MB Innovates to Showcase Excellence

With Operational Excellence at the forefront of its priorities, Mohammed Al Barwani Group of Companies recently re-hauled its approach in the 4th Chairman Award of Excellence (CAE) using live-streaming and internal staff voting, where over 60 projects from MB companies across the world competed in 5 categories, proving their #innovation , ingenuity, and project impact to their peers.

Mr. Tariq Al Barwani, MD of United Engineering Services and Mr. Said Al Jabri , COO of MB LLC, jointly gave out trophies to the projects which won thanks to their hard work and commitment to #excellence .

Mr. Said Al Jabri said: “We saw many impressive projects during this competition, and I believe holding this kind of competition encourages innovation and creativity in the group. It also helps engage employees with the business objective and reinforce our values to our colleagues while rewarding their efforts.”

The Chairman’s Award of Excellence (CAE) is an internal competition designed to acknowledge, celebrate and reward excellence in the MB Group of Companies worldwide.

Each of the 60 projects of the 4th CAE round featured an aspect of uniqueness and valuable impact. The projects ranged from methods to ensure quality in yacht-building in Turkey’s Turquoise, ESG frameworks in Petrogas in the Netherlands, and even innovative internal desktop applications to increase engineer access to critical data in Oman’s Daleel Petroleum.

Starting in June, the competing project leaders went on a series of discussions with a group of panelists, where each discussion was broadcasted live across MB Group in the interest of transparency and fair competition.

Mr. Badran Al Hinai , Group HR General Manager and the mastermind behind the original CAE said: “The CAE is all about acknowledging and rewarding excellence. From that viewpoint, we have always cared about the process itself being excellent. I think the team this year did a good job by introducing the livestreaming aspect.”

Mr, Hassan Al Rasbi , MB LLC Communications Manager and Project Head for the 4th round of the CAE, added: “We faced many challenges in the panels and the livestreaming, as well as in choosing the categories. However, I believe that this effort was worth it since we had 60 projects participating this year, our highest number yet. We were able to really showcase innovation and excellence to our colleagues and engage them, which makes me feel proud of this achievement.

“MB LLC inherently believes in Operational Excellence. It is one of our core values, which is why we aimed to really do everything we could to recognize the excellence of our colleagues,” he added.

Finally, the competition concluded with a winning project in each of four categories: Performance, Business Support, Digitalization and Technology, and Process Improvement. Additionally, MB Group Employees were able to vote on an additional winner through the “Employee Choice Award”.

MB Group held an award ceremony during its National Day Event to reward the following Projects:

-???????COVID-19 Business Continuity Initiative- Team Leaders Dr. Dhishaan Al Shanfari and Hamdan Al Broomi.

-???????Advanced Beam Pump Surveillance- Team Leader Muneer Al Balushi

-???????Sucker Rods Lifetime Improvement- Team Leaders Christian Landgraf and Azzan Al Asmi

-???????Urban Plan Project- Team Leader Al Yaqdhan Al Busaidi

With the competition over, the participants of the CAE spoke about their experience.

“We were able to reach the second-panel Alhamuldilah,” Ms. Moza Al Azri, who participated in the Duqm Room Restructure Project from Musstir said. “While we didn’t win, this was a good experience and I’m already thinking about what projects I can complete competing with in the future.”

Mr. Ammar Al Naaimi, from the communications department at MB LLC, added: “By seeing this competition live I got a real sense of what separates a good project from an excellent one. I think I have a lot to learn but this will help me going forward.”
