My Dear Son Azher,

It has been 37 years, not a day less, since I had taken you in my arms on this day, the 10th of February.

I can still sense the feel of your tiny fingers curling around my forefinger which I’d put in your palm. I want to share with you today my son, that your younger brother has been blessed with a baby boy recently. The moment we got to see him on the video call rolled up in the hospital’s clothing, your Mom and I exchanged looks of utter astonishment and couldn’t hold back our tears.

Everyone thought those were tears of joy; indeed they were, but mixed with an emotion that none could sense except your Mom and me. Your nephew looked an exact replica of you! But we didn’t wish to disclose that resemblance to anyone for everyone’s good. As soon as we finished the call your Mom squeezed my arm and shouted excitedly:

“Did you see?
Our Azher, our Azher has come back!”

I didn’t have the heart to deny her the joy that I hadn’t seen in her eyes for years now, and I simply nodded in agreement with her.

Our memories of you are refreshed every day now as we watch your nephew grow...

We miss you now even more than ever before, my son.

These days, your Mom smiles gleefully and tells me, “God’s given you the Oscar after all!”
