For a time, I ventured into the realm of personality assessment, crafting a system grounded in the principles of the MBTI to fathom the depths of customer understanding. While it provided a framework, I found it lacked predictive precision, remaining static where progression of mindset, as expounded by William Torbert, and the intricacies of traits beckoned for attention. The MBTI served as a foundational label, yet it was the unfolding and defining of these complex traits that truly propelled us forward.

In the above example, we audited and allocated paid search engine media according to personality traits connected to products with a higher customer lifetime value.? Customer lifetime value is higher as well as total sales volume.?

An esteemed entertainment company tasked us with deciphering the code to their most profitable customer segments. Through the implementation of our Personality machine, we uncovered a pivotal trend: their paramount customer demographic was gradually maturing beyond the target age range, a suspicion the company had previously entertained. Our analysis pinpointed the ISFJ and ISTP personality types not only as the principal drivers of sales volume but also as segments with the highest income, net worth, and property values.

The data crystalized a strategic opportunity: emerging customer groups, five to ten years younger, poised to bolster the company's sales over the coming decade. Armed with this intelligence, the company could craft a forward-thinking plan:

  • Messaging and media strategies would require recalibration to resonate with the distinct personalities of future best customers.
  • We identified several personality segments that, despite significant acquisition costs, exhibited low retention and loyalty rates. Redirecting resources away from these groups would enhance marketing efficiency.
  • By honing in on the core customer base and those poised to drive future profitability, the company realigned its focus on the individuals that truly impact its bottom line. A meticulously named, addressable, look-alike audience now steers the company towards a prosperous horizon.

ISFJ individuals, with their quiet demeanor, conscientious nature, and meticulous attention to detail, offer a loyal customer base that values harmony and consistency. Meanwhile, the ISTP personality types, pragmatic and efficient, are quick to respond to problems with workable solutions, valuing logical principles and effectiveness.

This strategic pivot not only reinforces the company's connection with its current valued customers but also sets the stage for sustained growth and relevance with upcoming generations, ensuring the company's legacy resonates with an evolving audience.

We have been engaged by an online deals retailer to discover their audience.?? The company would send out a limited number of segmented emails on a daily and weekly basis.? The segments were based on clicks and demographics.? The company had limited information on its customers.

?We cleaned, appended detailed information and segmented customers per desire and expectations.? We discovered a handful of personality types that are profitable.? We then appended the highest converting products to each personality.? Thus, the company could change marketing based on segmented desire and expectations.

An ENFJ is the most profitable customer for this brand.? The products sold to the ENFJ are considerably different than an ESFJ.? While one would expect close purchase behavior, the results clearly show different buying patterns.

One surprise was discovered.? The company typically mails handbags to woman, yet certain types of introverted men convert at a much higher rate.?

The company is now reorganizing technology efforts with an expectation of yielding a 30 to 40% increase in revenue from reorganizing.?

ENFJ

Warm, empathetic, responsive, and responsible. Highly attuned to the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. Find potential in everyone, want to help others fulfill their potential. May act as catalysts for individual and group growth. Loyal, responsive to praise and criticism. Sociable, facilitate others in a group, and provide inspiring leadership.

ESFJ

Warmhearted, conscientious, and cooperative. Want harmony in their environment, work with determination to establish it. Like to work with others to complete tasks accurately and on time. Loyal, follow through even in small matters. Notice what others need in their day-by-day lives and try to provide it. Want to be appreciated for who they are and for what they contribute.

We were engaged to audit a major retailer.? This retailer sells a variety of SKUs and considered itself a broad appeal retailer.? We cleaned, appended and segmented the customers by desire and expectations.? The personality types were further segmented into (high/low) frequency purchasing and (high/low) revenue.?

The results helped the retailer focus on ESFJ and high volume and frequency ESTPs.? A marginal contribution from ISFJ was discovered.?

This allowed the brand to focus efforts on the above personalities.? The result was trimming media spend and focusing creative efforts on the most profitable, highest converting customers.

ESTP

Flexible and tolerant, they take a pragmatic approach focused on immediate results. Theories and conceptual explanations bore them - they want to act energetically to solve the problem. Focus on the here-and-now, spontaneous, enjoy each moment that they can be active with others. Enjoy material comforts and style. Learn best through doing.

ISFJ

Quiet, friendly, responsible, and conscientious. Committed and steady in meeting their obligations. Thorough, painstaking, and accurate. Loyal, considerate, notice and remember specifics about people who are important to them, concerned with how others feel. Strive to create an orderly and harmonious environment at work and at home.
