Maybe Radio Could Be Doing More
Something to consider, perhaps, while we continue to struggle to figure out what happened on January 6th... When we seem surprised that these legions of lunatics not only exist but are able to organize in their fanaticism and go berserk all over the Capitol building, consider that there's not really a talk radio outlet, at least in Los Angeles, that caters to anyone who isn't a disciple of Trump, or at least a hater of the Left. It creates the illusion that anything that isn't an American flag flying from a giant Donald Trump flavored boner is not only wrong but wicked. It's all wildly upside down, especially when you consider that the man who complained about election interference is on several recordings asking for votes to be found. It's all a bit ridiculous, especially when Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly and Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage and Kennedy and that guy on Fox who doesn't sit up straight and Dan what's his name with a B and a hundred others all sing different verses of the same song. If it's a legitimate point of view, then it's sociopathic. If it's not to be taken seriously, then it's dangerously manipulative. Feeble-minded idiots are taking notice and that's how you get January 6th. Don't censor these fools, but somebody should really get some voices on the radio that don't trigger chaos. For a while there, KLSX in Los Angeles was more of a hot talk station, but now it's a party station after flipping to a hot AC station after Stern went to satellite and Adam Carolla and Danny Bonaduce walked the halls at 97.1. There was a short lived Air America or Radio America or something that was supposed to be more left of center, politically speaking, but it didn't last very long. KFI is always an option for talk but still tends to be conservative. I just think there should be a radio station in the nation's second largest market that counters the kind of radio that endorses January 6th-type activity. And radio stations change all the time. KRTH played smooth oldies as recently as 6 years ago and now plays Metallica and LL Cool J. KTWV used to play Jazz and now is basically an AC station, playing Phil Collins and Chicago. It wouldn't be hard to flip a station to some sort of intelligent talk. Maybe KKGO or KTIE, though that one is owned by Salem and they tend to be not only conservative but also religious. KLOS has a new owner and he seems to be somewhat savvy. Cuban billionaire I think. Maybe I should get him meeting with him. Anyway, point is if people like Tucker Carlson can say ridiculous things to incite ridiculous people to do ridiculous things, and then say he was just joshing, there ought to be an outlet where people can go for entertainment and information and rhetoric that serves more purpose than just being angry that your team lost. These things are cyclical anyway. In 2 years or 4 years it'll be the other way around, probably. But there still won't be enough radio stations to undo what's been done. Normally I'd say that the strength of the left is not having to defend themselves, and the weakness of the right is the need for so many voices of dissension, but when you get a January 6th, it might be time to rethink a strategy.
