Maybe it's NOT your genes

Maybe it's NOT your genes

I recently had my DNA data analyzed to get some clues as to what kinds of problems I may be susceptible to in the future.

Then, once I had the data analyzed (this is done through software), my Doctor and I went over everything together.

(If you want to know how I had my DNA data analyzed for less than $20 and how to find a Doc who will actually take the time to do this with you, send me an email [email protected] and I'll share.

Everything seemed pretty "normal" for me which was a relief. But what we both found funny was the fact that I had MULTIPLE genes that showed I was susceptible to obesity and being overweight.

In other words, I am programmed to hold onto extra bodyfat.

And there are definitely people in my family who are overfat.

Many of whom are very quick to blame their overweightness on their DNA - Even though I am pretty sure none of them have ever tested.

And, historically, whenever these relatives would see me, they would always let me know just how lucky I was that I didn't get their genes.

Guess they were wrong about me being lucky. lol

Seems like, just as I had suspected, there is much more going on here than just genetics.

Despite my genetic programming, I LIVE aorund a 10% bodyfat and my weight is noramlly about 155-160# soaking wet.

Many would say I'm too skinny. But most of the critics haven't eaten something healthy in the last 20 years.

I can see all my abs, and it's not because I starve myself or live my life in a calorie deficit.

In fact, I haven't counted a single calorie since 2007.

Interesting to note...I WAS overweight back in my mid to late 20's.

But knowing what I know now, It was because of my lifestyle.

I was drinking a LOT of alcohol, eating a LOT of bad foods, and just overall living a very unhealthful life.

If you ever find yourself blaming your genetics for your situation...think again.

DNA testing is there to provide clues around where your susceptibilities may be , but as it turns out, your lifestyle has a massive impact on your overall health and well-being.

Another interesting note from my DNA that proves this point...I am a cancer survivor and did NOT have the genetic predisposition for cancer.

Could it have been all the alcohol, bad foods, and negative thinking that put me in that place.

Maybe. I can't really know for certain.

But I sure like the idea of being able to own my situation. It gives me the power to NOT be condemned to my DNA report. I'll choose power over fate any day!!!

So, next time you think to yourself, "It runs in my family" when trying to explain away your current state of health and well-being, remember to point the finger at yourself FIRST.

Because pointing the finger at anything external is giving away your power.

In my opinion, if you want to be powerful in this one life, empower yourself FIRST by never blaming anyone or anything for your circumstance.

You deserve to be powerful.
