?? Goodbye PERM 1.0, Hello PERM 2.0?
Are you applying for an EB-2 or EB-3 visa? You'll need to apply for a PERM application using the new system. The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Foreign Labor Certification (OFLC) has?announced ?that it will release a new PERM application and that it will be filed in its FLAG system, effective May 16th, 2023. The?PERM process ?is the first step in the employment-based immigration visa process, except for individuals who are exempt due to their visa category.?
The new form will require employers to provide more detailed information than the current form, and will automatically populate information from the prevailing wage form into the new PERM application. Employers will not be able to change this information. OFLC will no longer accept the old PERM application through the legacy PERM CMS system or by mail. The implementation date is three months earlier than previously indicated on OFLC's FLAG website. So be cognizant friends!
???? European Union Updating The Schengen Visa Process
The European Union Council has agreed to negotiate a?proposal ?that will digitalize the Schengen visa application procedure, aiming to make the process more practical and improve the security of the Schengen Area. If approved, the EU will create a visa application platform where Schengen visa applicants can submit all relevant information, upload electronic copies of travel and supporting documents, and pay their fees. All visas will be issued in a digital format, cryptographically signed, and as a 2D barcode, decreasing security risks related to stolen and counterfeit visa stickers.
The proposal introduces the possibility of online application for a Schengen visa, replacing the current visa sticker with a?digital visa?to make the process less troublesome. In-person appearance at the consulate will only be necessary for first-time applicants, persons whose biometric data are no longer valid, and those with a new travel document. The digitalization of the Schengen visa procedure will reduce the number of trips to the consulate for travelers, making the process smoother for national administrations, and put an end to the risk of falsification and theft of the visa sticker.
