May in Tech: What You Need to Know to Stay Ahead

JetSoftPro offers you three current trends that the technology community will actively think and talk about in May 2024. Get inspired and utilize them for your business advantage.

1. AI Artists will replace some graphic designers

There's a gradual increase in demand for artists who create images using artificial intelligence (AI). Platforms like Copilot, Midjourney, and others have learned to produce truly stunning graphics if given the right input. However, the biggest challenge lies in crafting the correct prompts, as the skill of writing the right prompt remains rare. The AI design industry is gaining momentum, already being actively utilized in advertising and publishing, and firmly establishing itself in social media. More and more brands are openly acknowledging the use of AI-generated content, and high-quality images generated by AI are quickly gaining supporters. Another application of AI for artists and graphic designers is reference generation. AI provides averaged values by gathering information from across the internet, allowing designers to spend less time on research and analysis of how their desired idea looks among competitors.

2. Budgets for defense technologies are rapidly growing

We wrote about this last month, but the trend is supported by new figures. Global military expenditures in 2023 reached $2.443 trillion, marking a 6.8% increase compared to 2022, the highest growth since 2009. China, the world's second-largest military spender, reportedly allocated around $296 billion to its military in 2023, marking a 6 percent increase from the previous year. This marked the 29th consecutive year of growth in China's military spending. Notably, China's military expenditure comprised half of the total spending across the Asia and Oceania region. Consequently, some of China's neighboring countries have also boosted their military spending, citing concerns over China's escalating military expenses. The highest demand is felt for robotic technologies that reduce human presence on the battlefield.

3. Overly intelligent applications

AI is at it again. Next-generation applications not only collect data on transactions, browser history, and activity but also utilize AI to predict users' purchases and their behavior significant for businesses shortly, leveraging this data in content creation. For example, an online shopping platform highlights recommended products not only based on what you've viewed but also on items that are likely to capture your interest, based on your activity not only on that platform but across the entire internet. The next expected step is product descriptions with auto-generated text based on keywords that are likely to interest you. This might stray further from the truth but aligns closer with your beliefs. We are entering a period where technology is writing "anything to make you buy," while regulation has yet to catch up.

Look forward to our next newsletter in June!
