May Planning Applications Update

In May, Scotland saw a surge in planning applications, reaching a total of 5,258 requesting approval. Out of these, 436 homes were identified as Affordable.

Leading the pack was Stirling Developments, applying for permission to build 2,150 new homes on a 233-hectare masterplan site in Pitreavie, Dunfermline.

Other notable applications included Dandara Living's 503 homes in Anderston Quay, Glasgow, Persimmon's 425 homes in Stirling, Bancon's 390 homes on their expanding site in Banchory, and Culross Ltd's 236 homes in Newcraighall, Edinburgh.

Approvals were also granted at a decent rate, with a total of 1,763 new homes receiving the green light, including 130 identifying as Affordable.

Hallam Land Management secured approval for 471 homes in Kilmarnock, while Miller Homes stood out with 215 homes approved in Bo'ness, bringing their total to 396 when combined with their Kinglass Meadows development.

However, May also witnessed an unusually high number of Refusals and Withdrawals, with 331 homes being refused and 611 homes withdrawn—resulting in a grand total of 942 homes that won't be built.

Notably, Clackmannanshire refused Allanwater's request for 244 homes in Alva, West Lothian refused Taylor Wimpey's development in Bathgate, and Springfield Properties withdrew their application for 503 homes in Livingston West.
