It May Only Be The Spring Semester, But It's The Perfect Time To Start Your Fall 2023 Internship Search Preparations Now!

According to a 2020 Recruitment Survey conducted by The Manifest, 90% of employers say social media is important when evaluating a candidate and 79% of HR professionals have denied a candidate a job due to inappropriate content on social media. You will want to clean up your social media presence before you start job hunting.

Make sure your LinkedIn profile is business-ready: a professional-looking photo, a headline that sells your value proposition, an About section that engages a reader, an Experience section with relevant accomplishments for each role, appropriate skills for the types of job you are applying to, and your education. If you are a student or recent graduate, be sure to add your relevant coursework.

Multiple studies and surveys have shown that between 60% and 80% of jobs are filled by networking. The old adage “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” has perhaps never truer. Remember that you can't just make connections IRL and on LinkedIn and then do nothing. You have to actively engage in those relationships on a very regular basis. Make sure you connect and network on LinkedIn with alumni from your school.

What are you looking to get out of an internship?

???????????????? ???????? ????????-?????????? ?????? ???? ????????????????????

1. Is this a company that I would want to work for full-time after graduation? - You only have a limited amount of time that you can dedicate to an internship. Don't waste it on a company that you would not be interested in working for full-time.

2. Paid or unpaid? - Sometimes a really unique opportunity may present itself, but it is unpaid. Know before you start applying to positions whether they are paid or unpaid and whether you can afford to take an unpaid internship. In general, you are better off engaging in unpaid internships during the school year on a part-time basis so you can still take full advantage of your college's resources.

3. Remote or onsite? - Some companies are still having employees work remotely so you need to decide if a remote work scenario is right for you when it comes to getting everything you can out of an internship. If the internship is going to be remote, be sure to ask questions during the interview regarding how the team stays in contact and what opportunities they provide to ensure that the team feels connected.

4. Local or away? - Some people only want internships local to their home or school. This may be for a number of reasons, including the need to pay rent, buy food, etc. that comes with interning away from home or school. If you are considering an internship away from home or school, make sure you get specific details on relocation, housing allowance, etc. If you take a summer internship, be sure to check out colleges near where you will be working. Many colleges will let you rent a dorm room for a very reasonable price during the summer season.

5. What type of work will you be doing during your internship? - When picking an internship, look for one that offers you a truly hands-on experience. This will allow you to make well-informed decisions down the line and find the career path that works best for you. Look for opportunities that have a built-in support system for interns to access higher-level executives.?

6. Decide what type of company you want to intern with. -?Big or small. Established or start-up.?

Wow! This is earlier than I thought. Would you say there’s still time to find an #internship for the summer, Denise Bitler, MRW, CPRW, CDBS, CICNC, CIC? And in terms of #highschool students wanting to do an internship, is the timeline the same? Assuming it is because it’s the #employers timeline. Thanks for this information!
