? Helping Anxious Strivers shift into Powerful Life Creators through The Powerful Creator Effect
If you are procrastinating in an area of your life, chances are you are avoiding your feelings. But avoiding your feelings only keeps you stuck.
The result? Life stays the same, feeling like Groundhog Day where nothing ever changes. It's frustrating and disheartening.
Over a decade ago, I wanted to start my own consulting business. In fact, years before I made the leap, I filed for the LLC, built a website, and started a blog. But I couldn't make myself move forward. I kept procrastinating. I avoided the feelings of fear and uncertainty, and as a result, I stayed stuck for years.
The Impact of Avoiding Your Feelings
Avoiding your feelings doesn't eliminate them; it only prolongs the inevitable. When we procrastinate, we're often trying to avoid uncomfortable emotions. However, these emotions don't disappear; they stay with us and keep us stuck. This creates a cycle where we feel trapped, unable to move forward with our goals and dreams.
Understanding and Navigating Procrastination
There are several ways to navigate procrastination, and I address many of these in the 21 Days to Get Unstuck Experience. Today, I'm going to share one of my favorite methods with you. It’s simple and you can do it right now.
Step-by-Step Method to Overcome Procrastination
Step 1: Identify the Emotion
Think about the thing you want to do but simply can't make yourself do. Identify the emotion that comes up for you. Is it making you feel sad, angry, frustrated? For a lot of people, it's fear. Recognize that emotion and name it.

Step 2: Locate the Emotion in Your Body
Next, identify where you feel that emotion in your body. If you feel sad, you might feel a heaviness in your chest, like it’s hard to breathe. If you feel angry, it could show up as a burning in your throat. Pinpoint where the emotion manifests physically.
Step 3: Focus Your Attention on the Emotion
Once you’ve identified where it is in your body, focus your attention there. Maybe place your hand there if that feels helpful. Ask that part of your body if it has any information for you. This might come up as a thought or an image. Just sit with it for a moment and be curious—there’s no wrong answer here. What comes up for you?
Moving Forward
This process helps you confront and understand your emotions, making it easier to move past procrastination. By acknowledging and addressing your emotions, you can begin to break free from the cycle of procrastination and move towards achieving your dreams.
Now you know how to start overcoming procrastination by acknowledging and addressing your emotions. But the problem is, these emotions often come from parts of you, like the inner critic.
