Inquisitors

After Obi-Wan Kenobi’s name disappears in a stream of sand, the trailer opens amid storm clouds. A ship speeds to the surface of a sprawling city planet, then Obi-Wan Kenobi narrates a warning. “They’re coming,” he says. Next we cut to our main Inquisitors? — Jedi hunters. One leads a?stormtrooper??battalion through the city. The other three Inquisitors search through a Tatooine? marketplace, much closer to Obi-Wan Kenobi than is safe for him or the family he protects.

Owen Lars

“Stay hidden,” Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Owen Lars?, “or we will not survive.” Owen and his wife Beru Lars? have been charged with raising?Luke Skywalker?, twin brother of?Leia Organa??and son of?Anakin Skywalker??and the late?Padmé Amidala?. Luke is a Force-sensitive youngling who could bring the Jedi back from ruin. Obi-Wan clearly intends to train him but, as shown in the trailer, Owen wants nothing to do with Obi-Wan or the Jedi. It seems Owen is (rightfully) hesitant to trust the Order that ruined his stepbrother’s life.

Hunting Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Inquisitor Reva? / Third Sister? has an obvious vendetta against Obi-Wan Kenobi. Is it personal? Is she simply that devoted to her duty? Whatever the reason, she’s leading the hunt for this elusive Jedi. While her coworkers are convinced Kenobi has vanished, she replies that they must be looking in the wrong places. Thus she’s hiring “every low life and bounty hunter” to assist. Reva’s orders are definitely causing Obi-Wan Kenobi trouble, if this footage is any indication. He’s being forced to use a blaster in defense, after all! So uncivilized.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is additionally shown in a back alley brawl with some aforementioned lowlifes. He’s engaged in hand to hand combat. It’s highly probable that Obi-Wan is going to wait to bring out his lightsaber until absolutely necessary — especially since the Jedi weapon would only attract more unwanted attention. But the poster assures us his ancient weapon is still attached at his hip where it belongs. Without Commander Cody? to pick up Obi-Wan’s lost lightsaber, Obi-Wan has to take better care of it.

Reva

Speaking of lightsabers … Reva sure looks cool with her red saber as she leaves the Inquisitor base. Besides the Grand Inquisitor? — initially introduced in?Star Wars: Rebels??— Reva seems to have a lot of power among her peers. We’re definitely looking forward to learning more of her backstory. Like many Inquisitors’ origins, Reva’s is likely tragic.

Another Jedi?

As the trailer comes to a close, we of course get a quick cut montage of thought-provoking and emotion-stirring scenes. Wielding a blaster yet again, Obi-Wan fights off a group of stormtroopers. A large droid fights off the same enemies but in a different location — perhaps a cavern of some sort. There’s another shot of Reva in combat. Then, most interestingly, we see Kumail Nanjiani’s character for the first time. And judging by his clothing, we’re slightly convinced he’s another Jedi.

Of course, earth toned robes aren’t unique to Force wielders. But his concerned expression and breathlessness, coupled with the fact that this series will focus heavily on groups of Jedi hunters, raises our suspicions quite a bit.

The Empire

By this point in a galaxy far, far away, the Empire is in full control. Led by the sinister?Emperor Palpatine?, the Empire is a military dictatorship enforced by thousands of soldiers. Although these are the early days of its rule, it is still the ruthless and dangerous overarching antagonist we met in?Episode IV: A New Hope?. In combination with the Inquisitors, we will likely see a lot of the inner workings of the Empire as well as its supporters.

Darth Vader

Earlier during the montage, we were treated to a glimpse at Darth Vader’s prosthetic arm as it’s attached to what remains of his organic body. Fortunately, that’s not the last we see of this iconic?Star Wars?villain.

Similar to the teaser trailer, this?Obi-Wan Kenobi?trailer ends with Darth Vader’s breathing. However, the official trailer actually allows us some time with Darth Vader. Presumably within his meditation chamber, the Sith Lord? prepares for his day by placing his armor, suit, and other mechanical apparatuses on top of his burned skin. Then, the moment that left fans gasping:

Based on the sound layering alone, can we assume this is a fateful meeting between the former Master and Apprentice? The last thing Obi-Wan Kenobi did to Anakin Skywalker was tell him he loved him before leaving him for dead on Mustafar?. Obi-Wan Kenobi is forever haunted by this choice. That anguish is clearly conveyed on his face as he gazes upon his Apprentice’s darkened visage.

Has Obi-Wan Kenobi been captured? Will these characters duel? All these questions and more race in the audience’s head before the trailer ends. We see a title card, the streaming date, and Disney+’s awesome lightsaber logo. If you only glean one thing from this new?Obi-Wan Kenobi?trailer, it’s this: Anticipation could not be any higher for this show.
