Among the improvements introduced are a new menu as well as plating service for business class and tray service for economy class.

This new service and menu was launched on the Paris trip and will be rolled out to the rest of the routes in the coming months. KQ Becomes 1st African Airline to use SAF on Commercial Flight

Kenya Airways took part in?The Sustainable Flight Challenge (TSFC)?on 25th May 2023. TSFC is a friendly competition among SkyTeam?member airlines, and it encourages us to go above and beyond in efforts to find the most sustainable way to operate across existing networks. This year's TSFC expanded its invitation to include "friends and family" airlines close to SkyTeam, aiming to drive industry-wide sustainability improvements. As a result, we worked with our subsidiary, Jambojet, to develop a variety of sustainable solutions that can be adopted and scaled.

As part of the initiative, while operating the Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner for the return flight between?Nairobi?and?Amsterdam?KQ become the fisrt African airline to use?Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) throughout the flight. To obtain the SAF for this flight, we collaborated with Eni Sustainable Mobility, a leading SAF producer, as well as Flamex Petroleum Limited on a local level. This pilot flight will provide valuable data and insights that will assist in shaping SAF policy, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.

KQ Jetsetter, The Sustainable Flight Challenge

Aside from the usage of SAF, the flight preparations were done to guarantee that it was as sustainable as possible. Additionally, a number of activities, including light travel for passengers on the aircraft, route planning, onboard meals and packaging, transportation of passengers and crew, and gifts, were all arranged with sustainability in mind as part of our two flights:?Nairobi to Amsterdam?on KQ116 and?Amsterdam to Nairobi?on KQ117.

This move will allow us to leverage the industry's growing interest in sustainable aviation fuel, particularly since European airports will require aircraft to contain a percentage of SAF beginning in 2025. This year's Sustainable Flight Challenge winners is set to?be annoucecd at an awards ceremony in October 2023.

Jet Byte: Did you Know?

KQ Jetsetter, Jet Byte, Pilots eat differen meals

That pilots eat a different meal?

Having separate meals, reduces the likelihood of both pilots falling ill simultaneously from potential food contamination.

This precautionary measure is critical for maintaining the aircraft's safety and functionality during flights, allowing one pilot to assume control if the other feels ill due to food-related concerns.

Daily flights to NYC from the 19th of June 2023 is a milestone to celebrate. I hope they have redefined the culinary experience, entertainment and the seat pitch adjustment for more legroom, comfort and relaxation during the long haul flight...13 hrs direct is not a joke! I trust Kenya Airways to reach or even beat the standards of our middle eat carriers like Qatar Airways, Emirates airlines, Etihad airlines etc. ?? ??.
