May 2020 Recap: 7 Marketing Questions

How can social media monitoring inform your sales and product teams?

Monitoring your analytics for both your social media platforms and your other digital assets can give you very interesting data. This data can teach you, for example, about what types of messages your audience gravities towards. This can be very informative, but what I always look for is conversations that social media has enabled. By focusing on a conversation with a lead or potential customer, I will be more likely to find messaging that specifically got them to engage with me, and this is so important because it's conversations that, at the end of the day, drive sales.

Why are people attracted to social media platforms like TikTok?

TikTok has taken the customization of content to a level I have yet to see.

This means that after only using the app for a short while, it's algorithm will start to better learn and, in turn, match you with content it believes you will like. It has also hit a critical point of users, which means different content is being created (not just singing and dancing videos).

It hits the three elements of useful content, which is it's entertaining, educating, and engaging!

How much does your social media influence your prospects?

On average, a person needs to be exposed roughly seven times to a product, service, or brand before taking steps to make a purchase.

For businesses, this can be achieved on social media because of the ability to get in front of your audience for a reasonable price and at scale. This means more chances of being seen to your audience, which might move the perfect person closer to a decision.

This might work better for some solutions than others, but social media is a great way to get exposed to a brand and get the sales process going!

Why should brands be on all social media platforms?

Here's the thing, it's easy to look in from the outside in and make the assumption that every company should be on every platform. However, what is often not talked about is the opportunity cost as well as the resource cost of doing this. For big businesses that have available marketing budgets, yes, allocate your resources to make sure you are hitting all of them. But for small companies who I work with, I always focus on the 70/20/10.

  • 70% of your time and resources to the platform that is generating you the most returns now.
  • 20% of your time and resources to the platform that shows infractions of generating more than 70%.
  • 10% of your time and resources to experimental platforms that can produce some returns now but have a higher likelihood of generating more in the future.
What is content creation in social media?

Content is the lifeblood for every social media platform. Whether it is Snapchat, TikTok, or Linkedin, each platform relies on content.

Now for each requires something different, whether it is more videos, articles, pictures. But at the end of the day, the goals remain the same. You aim to entertain, educate, and engage your audience.

And through the content, you can achieve this!

How do you decide what new forms of content your brand needs?

The beautiful thing about content is that there are only 3 primary forms of it, video, audio, and text. This means that any changes probably don't need to be colossal, rather micro-adjustments.

To find these, I recommend most people to go directly to their audience to see what they are engaging with. If that doesn't work, then look at what experts are doing in the field or parallel field to your own. Get inspiration and then set out to test to see what works and doesn't for your audience.

What is your favorite social media platform in 2020?

So far, I must say I have been going all-in on LinkedIn and TikTok. Though I am active with other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, I am more passively on those.

What I look for in social media is a platform with hyper reach capabilities and active engagement from the audience I wish to reach. Therefore understanding who you want to communicate to and what you want to get across to them is imperative to your success.

So when selecting a platform, do your research and start testing as soon as you can.
