How to Maximize Your Podcast Over The Summer Months

When we hear from hosts that want to increase their flexibility over the summer months, we often hear that their first thought is, “should I just go on hiatus?”

This is the opposite of what we want you to do – stopping your show altogether means you totally cut off your SEO power and the ability for new listeners to find you. So, your audience growth gets stifled.

Additionally, you also cut off one of your strongest methods of keeping your current audience engaged and retained. According to Spotify, 63% of people asked said they trust their favorite podcast host more than their favorite social media influencer. Don’t lose that trust by disappearing!

And thirdly,based on the March ios update for Apple Podcasts, if you go beyond 30 days without a release your followers will no longer get your content automatically downloaded into their feeds. Eek!

Here are a few ideas of how to maximize your podcast’s power while you enjoy more time at the pool this summer:

Option 1: Leverage your back catalog by rereleasing fan favorite “encore” episodes. You can record a new intro to freshen them up if you choose!

*with the recent Apple Podcasts update, you may have back catalog episodes that are no longer accessible to your audience - and when the content is good, we don’t want people missing out on it!

Option 2: Create montage episodes that highlight cuts from your most downloaded episodes, or create your montages based on specific themes. You can hear an example of a montage episode here. This allows you to release creative, interesting episodes without having to record a ton of new content.

Option 3: Batch record! If you have the time soon, you can batch record episodes and have them released throughout the summer weeks. This might mean some schedule rearranging while you work on this, but a great agency partner can help you to do so based on your desired release schedule.
