Copilot for Microsoft 365 is a powerful tool that can help users improve their productivity and enrich their experience within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. One way to achieve this is by using Microsoft Graph Connectors to integrate external data sources with Copilot for Microsoft 365. By using Microsoft Graph Connectors, users can ingest, access and search data from third-party services, such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Azure SQL, or an external webpage. Users can ask Copilot for Microsoft 365 questions based on the external data and generate responses, further enhancing their productivity.

In this article, we are going to see Graph Connectors in action, and how Copilot for Microsoft 365 utilizes graph connectors and generates responses to questions based on external data. In this case, we have built a graph connector to an external website(www.snp.com)

Pre-requisites:

  • A Microsoft 365 tenant with an active subscription for Copilot for Microsoft 365.
  • Access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre.

The Graph Connector was built in the ‘Microsoft 365 Admin Centre’ under ‘Search & intelligence’.

This is how the Graph Connector looks like in the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre. We have named our connector ‘Website1’.

Responses generated by Copilot:

Let us begin by asking some simple questions.

The Copilot is very effective in answering simple, straightforward questions directly from an external source.

Next, let us ask questions that are a bit more detailed. Please note that this information is not available on a single webpage; Copilot has to crawl multiple pages and does the job effectively and efficiently.

We can clearly see that Copilot is even able to give us good responses for detailed questions.

Let’s try asking a few misleading questions.

Here, Copilot was smart enough to identify that the SNP website has no mention of ‘Graph Connectors’ or ‘football’.

In conclusion, Copilot for Microsoft 365, paired with Microsoft Graph Connectors, is a game-changer for boosting productivity by integrating external data into the Microsoft 365 environment. By connecting to services like Salesforce, ServiceNow, or even external websites, users can easily access and search a wide range of data. In our case, we demonstrated how Copilot effectively handled various questions related to an external website. Whether dealing with straightforward or more detailed queries, Copilot proved its value, even smartly filtering out irrelevant ones. This highlights how Copilot, when paired with Graph Connectors can significantly enhance your Microsoft 365 experience.
