Maximize Your LinkedIn Impact

Maximize Your LinkedIn Impact

Recently, while working on a LinkedIn professional development session for a Women in Leadership program, I saw just how powerful this platform can be for executive women.

With 45% of its audience on LinkedIn being management-level professionals, it's the perfect place to connect with decision-makers.

In 2024, almost half of LinkedIn users are women, giving female executives a space to tell their story, grow their networks, and amplify key initiatives that matter to them and their organisations.

When executive women are actively engaged on LinkedIn, it not only enhances their individual professional impact, but also strengthens key business drivers for their companies. This includes expanding visibility, fostering strategic partnerships, and driving corporate growth.

Here are three actionable steps executive women can take on LinkedIn to increase visibility, boost representation, and rapidly create value:

??The Impactful Profile Blueprint: A powerful LinkedIn profile isn’t just a summary of your past experience - it’s your leadership story. Ensure your profile captures your journey, reflects your values, and aligns with your future aspirations.

??LinkedIn Network Growth: Strategic connections lead to new opportunities. Focus on growing and nurturing a network that opens doors to growth, partnerships, and collaboration. Be intentional about who you connect with and how you engage.

??Amplify Your Leadership Voice: A well-thought-out content strategy is key to establishing thought leadership. Consistently share insights, experiences, and expertise that build your credibility and position you as a trusted voice in your industry.

By leveraging LinkedIn strategically, executive women can not only enhance their individual leadership presence but also become powerful advocates for their organisations. It’s more than just being visible - it's about making meaningful connections, sharing impactful insights, and driving business value.

How to reach out, connect and engage on LinkedIn.

I recently had the pleasure of joining Jacqueline Brooker CSP as a guest expert for the Speak More Collective, were we explored strategies for emerging and aspiring speakers to leverage LinkedIn. One topic we discussed was how to effectively use links to articles you have written as part of connecting and communicating on LinkedIn – particularly with new connections.

?? How you reach-out, connect and engage on LinkedIn depends on your strategy, service, and audience. Sending links to long-form articles or content pieces you have written can be effective in these interactions, but we need to think about the relationship we have with the person we’re sending it to - particularly if they don’t know us.

? When you send someone a link to read, especially to a detailed article, you’re essentially asking for one their most precious resources: time. Building a genuine relationship first makes it far more likely they’ll click, read, and engage meaningfully.

Before you hit 'send,' to your latest article, here are some points to consider:

??Have you nurtured this relationship enough? Are they likely to value what you’re sharing because they value you?

??Would this content genuinely benefit them? Make sure it aligns with their interests or challenges. It’s not just about you and sharing ?what you want to say, it needs to be helpful to them.

??Is this the right format for them right now? Some people, particularly new connections, may initially respond better to a short message, or even a quick voice note instead of a lengthy article.

??Have you created opportunities for dialogue? Encourage a conversation around the content rather than just dropping a link. Sharing links to long form articles you have written can work, but only when the groundwork

How LinkedIn can humanise your brand.

In today’s digital-first world, your website is essential. It’s key to your brand’s online presence – a place to showcase your services, expertise, and all the important information about your business.

However, while your website is static, LinkedIn offers a unique advantage: it allows you to humanise your brand by providing a platform for real-time content sharing and conversations.

As I discussed with Will Blunt from The Association of Professional Builders , unlike a website, which is often seen as a more formal or structured representation of your business, LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to show the people and the personality behind the brand. You’re not just broadcasting messages; you’re interacting with others, building relationships, and connecting with your audience on a more personal level.

This is especially important in a world where people are increasingly looking to connect with the humans behind the business. It’s not just about selling a product or service; it’s about sharing your values, and your insights.

Think of your website as the shopfront – a curated presentation of what you do. Now imagine LinkedIn as the conversation happening inside the shop. It’s where you can invite people in, engage them, respond to their questions and comments, and share what’s happening in your business right now.

By sharing your real-time thoughts, updates, and interactions, you’re showing the world that your brand is more than just a business – it’s a community of people.
