Maximize Results with the Right HR Tech Selection Process
Building a team is not only about bringing people with the proper technical skills to the company. It is more about ensuring they can succeed in the defined goals for a specific project.?
After several years working in the IT industry, I’ve identified the following key processes that may increase the probability of success for new hires.?
Proactive Outreach
The IT industry is characterized by a dynamic sector regarding people’s turnover. Having a vetted pool of candidates is important so the company can find already technically approved candidates when a new project arrives. This way, the “time to hire” KPI will be improved instead of searching for candidates once the project has been confirmed.?
Of course, there is a chance that vetted candidates might no longer be available when called, but keeping a database of previously approved candidates will always be a better option than having none.?
Define A Specific Skillset.?
Regarding technical requirements, it’s important to be super clear on what the project requires. You can't identify what you don't understand, and there’s nothing more dangerous for candidates to perceive a recruiter lost in their process.???

Define Specific Soft Skills
While technical skills are very important, soft skills will determine the kind of player a candidate is during the game. If the role requires constantly guiding demos with stakeholders, it might become mandatory for our new team members to have good communication skills. So, understanding the depths of the soft skills requirements for the position is as important as the technical skills to ensure a good fit for the role.?
Tracking The Process
“Time is gold,” says the famous quote, tracking where bottlenecks happen is key to the selection process's success. A smooth and efficient process provides candidates with autonomy and clarity, just as proper communication does. Failing to address these aspects can leave candidates feeling lost or forgotten, which could affect the candidate’s experience and the overall brand reputation.
Play By The Rules
Establishing a clear framework and setting boundaries is essential to creating a healthy team environment. Team members need to know, understand, and agree with the company's “Dos and don’ts,” supported by a fair disciplinary policy to address both positive and negative behaviors. By implementing reinforcement strategies, we can create and cultivate a working environment that encourages collaboration and motivates people to perform.?
Conclusion
People are not “plug and play.” Hiring based solely on technical skills isn’t enough to guarantee a project’s success. According to Bruce Tuckmann, there is a development process for teams to become successful, and for this to happen, factors like cultural fit, soft skills, and many other interpersonal factors will be required.
