Maximize the music

Maximize the music

Hey! I hope you enjoyed your week. It was great to see the broader recognition for Juneteenth. I hope that this same level of effort and intentionality is kept in future years.

Here's the latest from Trapital:

How Rappers Started Getting More Mileage Out of the Music

(Originally published August 14, 2019)

Albums used to be THE product. Now, they're a loss leader for everything else: tours, festivals, Netflix specials, podcasts, merch, VIP clubs. The best artists find the right balance. They don't leave money on the table, but they don't overdo it either.

I drew this diagram to show how the model has changed:

The Trapital Store

The Trapital store is open this week! Visit shop.trapital.co

Now's your chance to get a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or other form of merch. A portion of the proceeds will go to Campaign Zero, a policy campaign to end police brutality in the United States.

Hip Hop Statements Spreadsheet

I compiled a list of artists and music companies that made recent statements in support of Black lives and against criminal injustice. View the spreadsheet here.

I did this to track those who will stay committed and encourage others to do the same. Thanks to everyone who had contributed. Please share.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
