On Maundy Thursday, we remember the poignant acts of Jesus washing the feet of His Apostles and sharing the Last Supper with them. These moments remind us of Christ's humility, love, and the importance of serving one another. As we reflect on these events, let us also consider the song "Ancient of Days" and the words of Pope Francis, who, through his actions and words, emphasizes the significance of service and forgiveness.
"And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.'" - Luke 22:19-20 (NIV)
The Last Supper was a pivotal moment in Jesus' ministry, as it marked the institution of the Eucharist and foreshadowed His impending sacrifice on the cross. Jesus broke bread, representing His body, and shared wine, symbolizing His blood, as He established the new covenant between God and humanity. This act of love and sacrifice serves as a cornerstone of our faith, reminding us of the depths of Christ's love for us.
"None above Him, none before Him
All of time in His hands
For His throne it shall remain and ever stand
All the power, all the glory
I will trust in His name
For my God is, the Ancient of Days"

In washing the feet of His Apostles, Jesus demonstrated a profound act of love and humility. Pope Francis, during his visit to a prison, echoed these sentiments when he told the inmates:
"You have to wash each other's feet, one serving the other, without self-interest... How nice it would be if this were possible to do every day and for all people."
Pope Francis continued, urging the prisoners to serve one another and forgive each other. He said, "I do this from the heart because we priests should be the first to serve others, not exploit others... I do not judge anyone. I try to serve everyone."
The song "Ancient of Days" reminds us of God's eternal presence and sovereignty. As we trust in His name and recognize His power and glory, we are called to follow Christ's example by serving one another with humility and love.
This Maundy Thursday, let us remember Jesus' acts of love and humility as He washed the feet of His Apostles and shared the Last Supper with them. May we be inspired by the song "Ancient of Days" and the words of Pope Francis to serve one another without self-interest, to forgive each other, and to trust in God's eternal presence and power.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, on this Maundy Thursday, we remember the humble acts of love that Jesus displayed by washing the feet of His Apostles and sharing the Last Supper with them. Help us to follow in His footsteps, serving one another with humility, love, and forgiveness. We praise You, the Ancient of Days, and trust in Your eternal power and presence. Guide us in our daily lives as we strive to be more like Jesus, serving others without self-interest. In Jesus' name, Amen.
