Matthew Newton
On October 29th, Matthew Newton of Kingston Ontario passed away in his home from complications with pneumonia. Matthew serviced Belleville, Trenton and Picton for over thirty years in the Foodservice industry, selling equipment and supplies. Matthew was a long-time member of the Garrison Golf Club. ?
Matthew had a passion for all sports and an incredible ability to retain even the smallest detail about pro or college athletes. He loved to play golf, and connect with people while watching any sport, from curling to football. He was a fanatical fan of the Blue Jays, Jets, Leafs, and of course, the Syracuse Orange. Matthew loved to bait us, to give our opinion on anything related to sports or US politics and was equally anxious to send an article or engage in debate about why we were wrong. If only he would have been born in a different time or been a little more willing to embrace technology, he would have had the most entertaining podcast of any.
Matthew’s true gift was as a connector. I am pretty sure that the people reading this will feel the same way as I do, a closeness to Matthew. As the comments come in, we’ll recognize the names of most and know something about them and their families. We’ll feel like we know each other or something about each other or their families. That was Matthew, he was interested in all of us, he cared, and he shared. He was not a gossiper; he was a storyteller and boy, what a great storyteller. He had a unique way to make us feel like he was genuinely interested in our happiness and those around us. ?
I miss him and he will always be in my memories as a great friend. “Big Hugs”

1 年I was fortunate to meet this fine fella upon my transfer into the RH Kingston branch, the lunch room was always lively when Newt was around. Very sad to here the news. He was the best and will be missed.

1 年Kevin; Your words are spot on. He was a friend who could turn a 15 minute business presentation into an hour of laughter. I will always remember the day he called me and without preamble said "you like Nascar, who's good, who should I bet on". He was a character and will be missed.
