Matthew Chapter 12 Part 4

"The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it”

Foundation:

This will be our finishing of the Matthew Chapter 12 Lessons, though as a reminder we are each encouraged to read and reread on our own the Chapter. As I write this lesson, we are entering the Thanksgiving and Advent Time in the Calendar, and we start Matthew Chapter 13 after Easter 2023.

A bit of a sidebar as I hope you don’t think I spout just to spout, but my sober observations Praise be to the HOLY SPIRIT come from being in a “Church” Office since I was 19, as such are truly meant to enlighten us, by the HOLY SPIRIT alone, to what we are actually seeing, as Congregational Manipulation IS NOT limited to our Bible Passages and the Scribes, Pharisees, Sadducees and Priest of Jesus day, but indeed a live and destroying the “Church” Today.

The Presbyterian Church of America has as all do a Book of Church order, that is used only when they want to eliminate Pastors for consideration, and then ignored when they wish to break the very Bylaws used to eliminate a Candidate.

This abuse is about to again transpire at the “Church” I was an Intern at, and I have posted the statute that Prohibits a “Church” in the PCA From under normal circumstances promoting an Assistant Pastor to the role of Senior Pastor, and yet this what they are about to do, as did Coral Ridge Presbyterian, and worse a Church in North Texas, where the installed a Baptist Pastor, who only joined the Presbyterian Church in August of the year they installed Him as Pastor in November, Breakneck Speed in the Presbyterian order.

When the Abuse was reported to the Home Office in Georgia the reply said it all “Paul, The Local Presbytery is with in its right to do as they see fit”, in other words the Gulfstream Presbytery could have ordained the other 55 + year old and I and sent us on our way so we could transfer to another PCA Presbytery, but in their “Love for us” the decided the meanest past was the best for us, while tearing up the BOCA to install a child as the next Pastor.

Now this has a lot to do with our lesson, as we will see that Church Leadership has Never Changed, and Jesus HIMSELF will receive this Love, and HE is Jesus, and we sure aren’t.

In this lesson, we are looking at as the title suggests "The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it”

This is one of those lessons that remind me of the Damage being done to the Church by the “Reformed Evangelical Bible Pastors” who have been told how important it is for them personally to “Preach The Word” when this same group swears to know that the HOLY SPIRIT ALONE is the Preacher, and kindly uses us as HIS conduit

First Reading

Jonah 3:1 ? Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying,

?2 "Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you."

?3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three days' walk.

?4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one day's walk; and he cried out and said, "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown."

?5 ? Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them.

?6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.

?7 He issued a proclamation and it said, "In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.

?8 "But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.

?9 "Who knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish."

?10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

?10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

?11 Give us this day our daily bread.

?12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

?13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Christian What Do You Believe?

I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

Born of the Virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried:

He descended into hell;

The third day he rose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;

The Holy Catholic Church;

The Communion of Saints;

The Forgiveness of sins;

The Resurrection of the body,

And the Life everlasting.

Amen.

Second Reading

Mt 12:1 ? At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat.

?2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath."

?3 But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions,

?4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone?

?5 "Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent?

?6 "But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.

?7 "But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the innocent.

?8 "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

?9 Departing from there, He went into their synagogue.

?10 And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned Jesus, asking, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" --so that they might accuse Him.

?11 And He said to them, "What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out?

?12 "How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

?13 Then He *said to the man, "Stretch out your hand!" He stretched it out, and it was restored to normal, like the other.

?14 ? But the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

?15 But Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. Many followed Him, and He healed them all,

?16 and warned them not to tell who He was.

?17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:

?18 "BEHOLD, MY SERVANT WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN; MY BELOVED IN WHOM MY SOUL is WELL-PLEASED; I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT UPON HIM, AND HE SHALL PROCLAIM JUSTICE TO THE GENTILES.

?19 "HE WILL NOT QUARREL, NOR CRY OUT; NOR WILL ANYONE HEAR HIS VOICE IN THE STREETS.

?20 "A BATTERED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK OFF, AND A SMOLDERING WICK HE WILL NOT PUT OUT, UNTIL HE LEADS JUSTICE TO VICTORY.

?21 "AND IN HIS NAME THE GENTILES WILL HOPE."

?22 ? Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw.

?23 All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, "This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?"

?24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons."

?25 And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand.

?26 "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?

?27 "If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges.

?28 "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

?29 "Or how can anyone enter the strong man's house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

?30 "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

?31 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.

?32 "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

?33 "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.

?34 "You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

?35 "The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.

?36 "But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.

?37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

?38 ? Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You."

?39 But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;

?40 for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

?41 "The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

?42 "The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

?43 "Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it.

?44 "Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came'; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.

?45 "Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation."

?46 ? While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him.

?47 Someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You."

?48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"

?49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!

?50 "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

"The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it”

We will be taking a break from our series as of this writing we will be entering the Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas part of the Church Calendar, and in honesty can’t see starting Chapter 13 until after the Easter Season.

I hope you have enjoyed our walk-through Matthew ad just how The HOLY SPIRIT has awakened us to see the Trouble with the Church has really NEVER been the Congregants, but instead, the Leadership, and will always been the Leadership.

This Lesson is perhaps one of my favorites as it again has the HOLY SPIRIT reminding us, that if numbers of Congregants equal a great sermon, then perhaps the greatest Sermon EVER spoken was “"Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown." Spoken disgruntledly by Jonah is IT!

To my fellow “Preacher of the Word”, it will ALWAYS Be the HOLY SPIRIT who awakens, we are but the tools HE Kindly uses for the FATHER and SON’S Sake.

Our Lesson Text For Part 3 will be verses 38-50

1 Just Give Us A Sign

As we finish us Chapter 12, this request MUST stun us by the Scribes and Pharisees "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You."

What is great is I am sure by know the HOLY SPIRIT has opened our eyes to just why this is so stunning, Yes, Just how many miraculous Signs has Jesus performed right in front of them (two) in just this passage alone, and yet they are “Asking for a sign”, and Dr. Luke in His Gospel account will tell you these are miraculous then, as they would be today.

So, asking Jesus for a sign is disingenuous as they are selfishly asking for a sign that would benefit them alone, and not the congregants. Almost sounds like the “Church” Budget meetings as the Pastor labels off all of His needs to a group barely able to meet their own bills.

2 How Does Jesus Respond?

First, Jesus call the Leadership, this would be in the Presbyterian order the Pastors & Elders, the Roman order the Pope down to the Deacons, the Jewish order the Rabbis and High Priest, you get the picture, “Only an Adulteress Generation Would Ask For A Sign!!” and Remember these are the Leaders HE is talking to!

As we honestly assess the interaction we also must not that Jesus is NOT coaching HIS words here, and just how does this compare to the Prostitute at the Well in John 4 after a very kind exchange ?Joh 4:25 The woman *said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us."

?26 Jesus *said to her, "I who speak to you am He."

Jesus tells this Sinner (Us) that HE Is the Messiah and by the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT She believes and as a fruit of regeneration goes and proclaims Christ to Her Village!

The Religious Leaders demanded a sign, and Jesus Calls them Adulteress, The Adulteress Woman has a great conversation and the LORD has chosen Her for Regeneration, NO Sign (Earthly Given) as She is awakened to Salvation.

Perhaps the saddest truth about the Organized Religions is that we as in political discourse, demonize each other, needing to make the other side well aware of their Sins, while being blinded to Our own glaring Sins.

You see, I am personally the Chief of sinners (We all truly are) and it was for Sinners Jesus Came to rescue, it is a shame the Religious Leaders of Past Present and Future will always be blinded to our own sins.

3 Why Will Nineveh Stand And Judge “This Generation?”

We kind of hinted at why Nineveh will Stand and Judge that and indeed all current generations, and have you guessed it?

Jesus tells us it doesn’t HE, "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown." Upon the words of a disgruntled prophet (Jonah) the HOLY SPIRIT uses this “Most Powerful”(sarcasm intended) of messages to open the eyes of over 120,000 Souls.

How Long was the Sermon????

One sentence, as you see, the HOLY SPIRIT ALONE Awakens souls from the Dead, and as such the Generation Jesus is talking to, as well as future Congregations, Have the TRUE Messiah’s words, and are Blinded to the truth, so Yes Nineveh will Judge Us.

4 Who Is Jesus Family?

Let’s let Jesus Speak for HIMSELF,

46 ? While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him.

?47 Someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You."

?48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"

?49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!

?50 "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

The LORD’S Feast

We Sit and Use Raised Bread and A Full Cup of Grape Juice (not wine do to the amount) as Christ has Completed the Work, and has called us NOT to Stand shoes on, staff in our hand ready to flee, but in HIS finished work, HE commands us to Have a Seat, take your shoes off, relax, no need to rush, let the bread dough rise.

1Co 11:23 ? For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;

?24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

?25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

?26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

?27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

?28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

?29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.

When I serve Communion I serve a Raised Roll on Purpose, and a Cup of Grape Juice (4 oz) can you guess why?

Yes, The Lord’s Table we are to have a Seat, take your shoes off, no need the rush, Jesus has indeed Finished the Work.
