So if you would ask me 2 years ago, what I would be doing right now, I am pretty sure that the answer wouldn’t be: Leading the effort of creating, launching and marketing a BI tool for the world of E-Commerce.

To be honest, two years ago I did not have the slightest idea about the insanely dynamic World of Online Marketing and E-Commerce. 

Sure I knew, that there was a certain science in convincing me, that I should purchase a specific product, but the extent of that science has gotten the hold of me, and the deeper I enter the realm, the more it pulls me in.

Here are 5 topics that I could talk about forever when it comes to Online Marketing and E-Commerce.

 

1) Attribution Models

An Attribution Model set rules for how individual touchpoints are rated when it comes to the path of conversion. As a normal online consumer, you might not notice this in the fray of your daily surfing, but often the decision of buying a product is rarely spontaneous. More often than not, you go through a whole "Conversion Journey" Seeing the product, numerous times on different platforms, checking it out, and eventually purchasing it. Ever notice how a product you have checked out once, keeps on following you everywhere you go on the web? Well, it is not a coincidence. If you eventually end up buying the product, the online retailer must allocate the sale to the touchpoints that convinced you to follow through on the purchase.

Here is where Attribution Models come into play, as these can help the retailer to choose a specific way to allocate your sale accordingly.


2) Search Engine Optimization

I will be honest, when I started to learn about SEO, I hated SEO, I mean really despised it! It felt like I was back in my Nintendo NES times, pushing buttons in a specific sequence to enable cheats. I honestly hated how much work I put into writing heartfelt in-depth articles, only to get in mangled beyond recognition by some Search Engine Optimization tool.

With time I have learned to appreciate the science behind SEO, both on-site and off, and although I am just at the beginning of my SEO learning Journey, I can get mesmerized by a long-form discussion on how quality backlinks are essential for enhancing your own site organic presence.

3) The People

In the year I have been immersed in this world, I have not met a boring person working in Online Marketing or E-Commerce. If anything these people have been able to fascinate me with amazing stories of their exciting and dynamic day to day lives.

I will admit, there are many Fakers in this world and they can be extremely annoying and time-consuming. But when you learn to sort these out (most Fakers try to overwhelm you with buzzwords, that’s your number one indicator) You will get to know some awesome people with some insanely great ideas.

4) The Pace

If you enter this world from a totally different place (which was the case for me, check my bio) you will be astonished by the pace. E-Commerce is a constant battle fought in lightspeed.

There is a lot of capabilities that your average Online Marketing and E-Commerce Rockstar possesses, patience is NOT one of these capabilities. Kevin (Our DELTA42 "Backer" or "Sugardaddy" as we also like to call him) has this saying: "I am not going to ride a dead horse" which refers to the notion, that if an idea does not seem to bear fruit, we move to another one. Continuing with that metaphor, Your average Online Retailer won't even consider riding a horse suffering from a mild cold. The constant optimizing of every single button on a shop-page used to drive me mad. I know can not get enough of it! (Hit me up, if you want recommendations on whom to follow here on Linkedin!)

5) The Mindset

Most Online Retailers and Marketing Gurus, have earned their success through sheer will and passion, something you will recognize immediately when you meet a good one. The Personification of this Mindset is just so contagious. Although I am miles away from having this mindset, I honestly believe that having some of these amazing people in my circle of acquittances, has been vital in me myself being able to take the plunge from being a classical Head of Logistics to being the lead behind one of the most innovative dashboard solutions on the market, in the end, it is all about believing in your own ability to do something Awesome.
