This Week's Rundown

Last week I tweeted about making excuses and how addicting they can become in both your career and your personal life. Whether you choose to make excuses or to hold yourself personally accountable - it all boils down to mindset. Where is your mind at?

After I tweeted this, I wanted to find some great content around mindset, and boy did LinkedIn deliver. People are creating content around mindset every day, and the advice they're sharing can be transformational if you follow it.

So this week we're talking all about mindset, folks. Here's what we're covering:

  • Age ain't nothin but a mindset
  • A powerful journey from a closet to a king
  • How you behave when others succeed
  • Turning your anxiety to power
  • We all make mistakes. It's what you do next that counts.
  • Positivity & meditation for the win
  • How leadership mindset defines company culture

This week's Linkedin content comes from Dennis Yu, Chris Orlob, Paul Salamanca, Eric Didier, Amy Volas, Davion Rowles, and Tabitha Cavanagh. If you're not following these folks yet, check 'em out.

Now let's dive into the content!

Dennis Yu captures a thought that I have quite frequently, and he does it better than I could have ever hoped. As we get older, it's important to stay mentally young & energetic. It's important that we take that energy and focus on the stuff that makes us feel alive. Whether it's your career, your side hustle, your family, or your hobby - committing to (and nurturing) a young and vibrant mindset helps us perform.

Chris Orlob shares his journey from salesperson sitting in his closet at home, to helping build one of the country's top-performing sales teams. While he doesn't directly discuss mindset in his post, it reminds me of how our mindset changes as we grow big companies. Here's the key takeaway for me: Chris made sure to notice, save, and share his experiences over his journey, and that requires an open and learning mindset.

This post from Paul Salamanca could be a post about life in general, rather than just being on a sales team. He absolutely nails it. In order to fully enjoy life and your success, it's important to be able to find joy in the victories of others. In life, much like sales, we often win and lose as a team. When your teammates win, how does your mind react? Jealous? If so, focus on appreciating the success of others. Your success will be that much sweeter.

Eric Didier's post hit close to home for me because I often feel that anxiety, dread, or impostor syndrome when I attend an event or before I'm about to step on stage and speak. He does such a great job of reminding us that we all bring something different to the table, and we all have our own personal stories - our unique superpowers. When you feel stressed, or like you aren't good enough, just remember that you're the only YOU out there. Show the world what you've got.

When it comes to making mistakes, your mindset is everything. Some people freeze up, while others crawl into the nearest hole. My friend, Amy Volas? Nah. She says, "that's not how I roll when I make a mistake". What did she do to fix it? She lifted herself up, ate a little crow, and then addressed her audience. The best part was the responses she got. Love this.

I can personally attest to the success my man Davion has with his mindset, which he talks about in this post. While Davion was on my team, he was always positivity, energy, and good vibes. He brought those same qualities to his team and their performance was incredible largely because of Davion's influence. Take some time to focus on positivity through meditation, and bring that spirit to the rest of your team.

When you're in leadership, you have to adopt a mindset of expecting the best out of people to ACTUALLY get the best out of them. People who feel appreciated almost always give more discretionary effort than those who don't. Are you bringing this leadership mindset into your work? Are your leaders? Tabitha Cavanagh is right about what's bound to happen if you aren't. Powerful post.
