The Matrix is not here,... yet! 4 Types of AI.
Welcome back, folks! In the last edition, we discussed the basics of Artificial Intelligence. This newsletter is meant to explain AI with the least Jargon and that is exactly what we will continue with today.
Basic Recap (We'll keep repeating this until it comes naturally to us :) - 'AI helps to build smart machines that perform tasks that would otherwise require 'Human Intelligence'.
Today, let us discuss the four types of AI.
1??. Reactive Machines: (NPCs :) )
These are the most basic machines that can only react to their environment. They can’t form memories or use past experiences to inform current and future decisions, only directly perceiving the world and acting on what they see.
In simpler terms, Reactive machines are AI-based systems that can sense and respond to their surroundings in real-time, just like how human beings perceive and respond to their environment. They can be used in various real-life applications like self-driving cars, robots, etc.
2??. Limited Memory: (Time Travellers)
Imagine you're a computer and you're trying to remember things. Just like you have a certain amount of memory in your brain to store information, computers also have a limited amount of memory to store information.
When it comes to AI, the term "limited memory" refers to the fact that certain types of AI systems can only remember a certain amount of information at a time. These systems use a limited amount of memory to store information that they need in order to make decisions.

3??. Theory Of Mind: (Mind Readers)
Imagine you're trying to understand what's going on in someone else's head. You're trying to figure out what they're thinking, feeling, and what they might do next. This is what we call "Theory of mind".
In AI, the theory of mind refers to the ability of a machine to understand the thoughts, beliefs, intentions, and emotions of other agents, which can include humans and other machines. It is the ability to attribute mental states to oneself and others and to understand that others have beliefs, desires, intentions, and perspectives that are different from one's own.
4??. Self - Awareness: (Lacked even in humans at times. An aspirational AI model.).
This leads us back to our previous article's headline i.e. 'Can Machines think? And the debate around consciousness.'
Self-awareness in AI refers to the ability of a machine to understand its own existence and the fact that it is a machine. It means that the machine has a sense of "self" and is able to recognize itself as separate from its environment and other entities.
That will take us to the Matrix and the 'Rise of the Machines!' *Smiles in pain*
I am although optimistic that our species will be able to navigate through the rise of the machines and ultimately continue ruling the Matrix as we do today :).
That is it for today. See you in the next edition, folks!
