MATRIX 20.23 : MY '23 RESOLUTION

Goodbye 2022, Hello 2023! I was asking myself what should I be focusing more this year. Sharing my priorities in this short note with a simple matrix.

  1. Box Q1 is the backbone of company. Have a strong retention programme for this box.
  2. Recognise and reward young high performers in Q2. Never be afraid of giving them bigger roles. They are growth angels. Encourage crowd here.
  3. Q3 must be a temporary place. Need to have a clear plans to move them up to Q1. Close communication is mandatory. Always keep this box lean.
  4. Q4 must be a temporary place too. All in Q4 must get reassigned or replaced. Review recruitment and on-boarding process. Avoid crowd here.
  5. Strong Performance Management System with Development Programmes is key. 'Faith & Hope' is not enough.

It’s an interesting framework. Shouldn’t development be a part of it ? I have seen some startups struggling because the people there don’t always grow commensurate with the business . They understand the business and product well but don’t always have the soft and hard skills to manage at scale and scope.
