Mather Report with David Clinch

A trend in the news industry, that I have been following for some time, is the emergence of "Live Journalism" as a model for digital news organizations covering breaking and developing news stories, as well as live events in entertainment and sports verticals.

Live coverage is not new of course but the "Live Journalism" model was first developed by newspapers, with purpose-built products, technology and teams, to compete with TV News for audiences that flock to authoritative news sources during big stories.

The success that some of these big newspapers have had with this model, and the development of even more sophisticated products and workflows, has ironically now led to some TV News organizations thinking about adopting the same model on their websites and apps. To be clear, this means going beyond live streaming on your website, or even live blogs, to create a similar sophisticated "Live Journalism" experience for new and young audiences who expect more than just incrementally updated articles and videos to keep them engaged in the story.

Some magazines organizations have also moved in this direction as they cover more live events and big stories in their core verticals.

This comes as digital creates a "level playing field" for these traditionally very different types of news organization to compete directly for these new audiences and the long term revenue opportunities they bring.

As I mentioned before, we have now launched the?Mather: Strategies?consultancy?service to support media organizations that are moving to the "digital transformation 2.0" stage of their development and aligning their technology, content and newsroom strategy to optimize for consumer revenue.

We offer a simple "right-sized" approach to help media companies assess their revenue technology stack (Intelligent Paywall?) along with a review of content optimization and newsroom workflows to make sure both are aligned with the overall consumer revenue strategy.

We are the exact opposite of what big consultancy companies do in the industry so give me a shout if you want to hear more about this approach for your news organization.

Always?let me know on Twitter?if you spot any?#MediaRevenue?stories I may have missed. If you have any questions or comments about these updates,?please get in touch.?
