I am happy to announce my most recent publication with Dr Brian Winkel titled Spring Mass First Try in SIMIODE. There is also a Teacher Version of the same work available exclusively to our teacher colleagues in SIMIODE.
Dr Winkel and I feel this piece is an excellent contribution for teachers and students who use SIMIODE for teaching and learning differential equations in a modeling first approach. Moreover, this is an important part of SIMIODE's efforts to motivate the mathematics for students, especially students who are studying engineering. This materials will form an integral part of the journey to significant modeling scenarios and applications offered students in SIMIODE. This piece is a first in a series which will expose students to Tuned Mass Dampers and their importance in structures via material they will see in an introductory differential equations or engineering mathematics course
Note from the publisher: "SIMIODE offers materials to students and teachers (FREE) using a peer review, double blind referee system and full editorial engagement. We are very pleased that you are a contributor to that effort with this material. Thank you very much for your effort on behalf of our community and on behalf of the broader mathematics community. Your exposition and your helpful comments (based on your own experiences with this material) to fellow teachers who might elect to use this material in their classes is a great contribution as well."
