Mathematical Impossibility

Mathematical Impossibility

The most precious possession endowed to a human is #health. #Health is finite, and deterioration is constant (let's not get into the science & wormhole debate on reverse aging, longevity hacks et al.), and so you will expend it soon.

Second is TIME. You have finite seconds (I believe that rather than time, you are given finite breaths when you are sent down, slowing that down / pranayama aids longevity. But that is for another day, and I am NO science / biology geek), and therefore everything that you do and spend your breathing on, use it judiciously.

CASE1

Rakesh is appearing for a professional services exam in December 2024. There are 4 papers in a set of exams and each paper has around 700+ pages of content divided into 20+ chapters. Rakesh is proficient in experience and a working professional. All in all, the task for appearing for December exam with 2500+ pages of content, 90+ chapters with medium / high difficulty levels is a task at hand.

With this setting, mathematically it would take Rakesh to devout around 400+ hours on this task to be able to cross the hurdle of this exam. Now, if were to do this systematically on a daily basis studying 3-4 hours/day it would take over 4 months with a discipline study every single day, without a break.

But just in case, he needs few off days or is unable to study consistently, then then average hours a day go up. If he missed a few more days due to work schedule, personal issues etc., then it becomes a full time 7-8 hours a day. Beyond a point, if Rakesh slacks up, it will require him to devout over 12-15 hours / day. And if he were to start anywhere less than 2 months to go, it will require him to just do study and nothing else besides making this effort rote, reduce efficiency and set him up for failure. In reality, at some point it becomes mathematically impossible for any average student to crack this, leading him/her to lose this attempt or move to the next.

CASE2

Anuj has a goal to set up an enterprise and has relevant experience to set it up. Due to his sufficient experience with various top organizations, he has reached his prime. To be able to set up his enterprise (being a first-generation entrepreneur) he needs several things planned out. Capital, resources, operational steps of set up and above all runway for achieving sustainable client additions, revenues, cash burn and achieve profits will take time.

The longer Anuj takes to the plunge into starting the actual process to start the chain reaction to set up an enterprise, the difficult it will be for him to act. Several factors such as job security, comfort of getting a regular cash flow and mental difficulty to condition his mind to jump down the cliff/take a call.

Those individuals who have taken this decision earlier than later are better off since the runway to takeoff remains more or less similar +/- a few months, if the product / service is well thought of.

If the individual procrastinates and / or delays the entrepreneurship decision, then it is certain that at some point it will become a mathematical impossibility for his decision to become a reality. While we do have success stories of individuals starting an enterprise at 70 but, those are mostly outliers, lesser still large enterprises.

Lesson:

Time is a killer.

Use your time effectively in the upcoming year. Calendars will turn faster than your blink and if not planned / scheduled, it will soon become a mathematical impossibility.
