Math & More

An invitation to join the movement

Recently, Coaching Actuaries shared a press release announcing I retired as President of Coaching Actuaries effective January 1, 2023. I will still be active at Coaching Actuaries but with fewer responsibilities. This will afford me more time to pursue two of my passions: math and the people who do math. To scratch both of these itches, I’m starting a “math and more” movement. Allow me to explain the math and the more.

The Math

We will be solving a collection of interesting problems, mostly at the undergraduate calculus level. The emphasis will not be on the subject or the solution but on the methods and thought process. We will view problems from multiple perspectives to gain insight and appreciate the many dimensions of thought involved.

The More

The “more” part refers to an opportunity for personal growth and collaboration. Working together in a community will not only require good communication but also provide leadership opportunities. Of course, it also opens the door to meet other interesting math people! My motivation for us meeting together is to build confidence in your ability to make a difference. We will stumble and struggle together. This is an opportunity to be part of a community that believes in you and brings out your best.

Final project

We will meet monthly for 6 months and finish with a fun group project. This project is creating a video of a math problem that we, as a community, find interesting. Creating math videos is a thrill and I want to give you the opportunity to experience this joy. Also, it’s rewarding to create something you find worthy to share with your friends.

Join us

I will host two Zoom meetings to provide more information and details on how to begin. The Zoom calls are scheduled for 7:00-8:00 PM CST on Tuesday, January 10th and Tuesday, January 17th. Message me on LinkedIn if you want to attend one of these meetings.

Please share this opportunity with any math enthusiasts you know. I want this to be a personal experience so the number of participants will be limited.

Thank you for your consideration!
