Maternity pay, how men can help, and couples' tax bands: last year's top questions

Happy new year and welcome back to Rebalancing Act :) We’re really pleased to have had a bunch of new subscribers over the holiday period so we thought we’d briefly reintroduce ourselves before we kick off the year.

We are Selin and Nat. We met almost 10 years ago working as financial journalists at a publication in London and bonded over feminism, gin and perplexity at the British housing system.

Rebalancing Act was born from our desire to help fix the UK’s financial system for women. From depositing our first pay cheque to receiving our pensions, the system is designed in a way that disadvantages women. We believe the UK and global financial systems themselves need to fundamentally change to become more equitable (and we’re happy to go into this more) but we also write about solutions within these systems.

That’s because we’re led by you. Each week we try to answer a question on money, finance and economics sent to us by our readers, which is why our newsletters cover everything from financial access for women refugees to how to open an ISA.
