Material Digital Passport: Innovation and New Business Model for Oil & Gas Industry

Why MDP?

Material Digital Passport (MDP) is a novel system initiated by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP). The objective of MDP is to reduce material fraud by enhancing material traceability and proof of origin of commodities relevant for the energy industry's supply chain. MDP is an "electronic record" associated to procured items that is used to collect and store digitally a set of tamper-proof information about each equipment and material. Each physical equipment and material will have a unique universal identification as a decentralized digital passport that aims the trusted provenance and more efficient workflow in supply chain. The digitalized workflows can reduce paper, errors, effort, cost, and life cycle time for all stakeholders. MDP can be used as a platform by anyone to improve business model. We may also use the MDP system as a method for collecting and then retrieving additional information, such as data about circular economy metrics, material traceability, items secondary usage, and several additional product specific attributes. The very important key point of MDP is that can contribute to the circular economy enhancing planetary health, which is the common sustainable development goal in the energy industry's supply chain.

By adopting and implementing MDP, the oil and gas end-users, EPC contractors, suppliers and sub-suppliers can achieve significant benefits such as:

About the Moderator – Tatsuya Tobe

Mr. Tobe is an expert of piping material for EPC project execution in oil & gas industry. Mr. Tobe has experiences as an EPC contractor for 30 years in JGC Corporation. Mr. Tobe is Valve World Asia steering committee member. He has presented his professional as "Approach from EPC Perspective" at the first Valve World Southeast Asia Conference in 2023 in Singapore. His speech has been published in Valve World Asia Magazine Feb 2024 and Valve World (Global) Magazine Mar 2024. Mr. Tobe is also working in ASME B31.3 Subgroup on Material. Mr. Tobe has also experience for construction works for the projects through more than 2 years at construction site as a field engineer.? Mr. Tobe has much experiences of piping material manufacture survey (e.g. seamless pipe, welded pipe, buttwelding fitting, forged fitting, flange, valve vendors, casting foundries, specialty component such as strainer vendors).
