Material collages in 3D

HAPTIC AND VISUAL COMPOSITION

Material collages are a very common method in the field of Colour | Material | Finish (CMF) to make colour and material concepts more comprehensible to the customer. All materials and colours can be experienced haptically and visually.

At studiokurbos, we go one step further and bring the material collages into a three-dimensional context.

FOCUS & CONSCIOUS ARRANGEMENT

Sandra Hartmann, head of the CMF team at studiokurbos, sums up the central advantage:

"Through three-dimensionality, we add a new level of meaning to the collage. The most important materials are positioned higher and stand out spatially. Materials that additionally emphasize the central statement remain in the background."

This effect is supported by the natural incidence of light. The higher an object is placed, the more light it catches and reflects. The focus of the eye is automatically drawn to it and its meaning is strengthened.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL LEVELS

From the side, the 3D material collages are reminiscent of models of major cities with skyscrapers of varying heights. In fact, architecture is also a central source of inspiration for Sandra and her team. But not only that. The creative designers are also constantly inspired by nature for colours and structures. This then gives rise to new colour worlds like the lime green shown here.

And then Sandra explains:

"Recently we did a workshop and dyed fabrics ourselves with fruits, plants and bark. The results amazed us and gave us new, sustainable ideas."

This shows again: design unfolds its full power when it can be experienced sensually - not only for the customer but also for us designers.
