Match Group’s groundbreaking AI assistant is here to transform your dating experience
The world’s largest online dating company, Match Group, is preparing to revolutionize the dating landscape with the introduction of an artificial intelligence assistant. The new technology aims to address growing user fatigue with dating apps and declining subscriber numbers by enhancing the online dating experience.
AI-Powered Dating Assistant
Match Group’s unnamed AI assistant, set to debut in March 2025, will take on various tasks traditionally managed by users. These include selecting photos likely to attract the most responses, drafting compelling bios, and suggesting potential matches. Users will also benefit from tailored messaging advice, with the AI analyzing interests to recommend conversation starters.
To better understand user preferences, the assistant will conduct spoken interviews, providing personalized guidance on profile creation and dating strategies. In addition, the assistant will offer coaching for users struggling to secure matches, sharing tips on improving profiles and increasing visibility.
AI Integration Across Match Group Platforms
Bernard Kim, the CEO of Match Group, described the upcoming AI features as a major step in the company’s evolution, marking the beginning of what he calls the “AI transformation” phase. Kim emphasized that the technology will influence every aspect of the user journey across Match Group’s portfolio, which includes leading platforms like Tinder and Hinge.
“This technology is revolutionary for dating, and we’re bringing it to life across our entire portfolio,” Kim said. “AI will influence everything from profile creation to matching and connecting for dates.”
Gary Swidler, Match Group’s president and CFO, highlighted the efficiency gains from AI integration. According to Swidler, AI will streamline the matching process, reduce user effort, and improve overall outcomes for both users and investors.
Addressing Declining App Usage
The AI initiative comes at a time when dating apps are experiencing a notable decline in usage. A recent report by Ofcom revealed that Tinder and Hinge lost nearly 750,000 subscribers in the UK alone over the past year. This drop underscores growing user dissatisfaction with traditional app experiences, including the time-consuming nature of swiping and profile curation.

By introducing AI-driven features, Match Group aims to reignite interest in its platforms, offering users a more seamless and engaging dating experience. Swidler expressed confidence that the company’s investment in AI will yield long-term benefits, enhancing user satisfaction and boosting subscriber retention.
Concerns Over Data Privacy and Dependency
The use of AI in dating has not been without criticism. Experts warn that reliance on AI tools could diminish users’ ability to interact authentically without technological assistance. Anastasiia Babash, a PhD candidate and member of the Ethical Dating Online project, cautioned against over-reliance on AI.
“Users who depend on AI for conversations may lose the ability to engage in real, spontaneous interactions,” Babash said. “This could hinder their ability to build genuine connections.”
Privacy concerns have also been raised regarding the extensive data collection required for AI algorithms. Babash questioned whether companies like Match Group can effectively safeguard user data or address biases embedded in AI systems. Unchecked biases could lead to discriminatory outcomes based on factors like race, gender, or socioeconomic status.
Match Group’s Commitment to Responsible AI
Faye Iosotaluno, CEO of Tinder, acknowledged these concerns but reiterated the company’s commitment to ethical AI implementation. She emphasized that Match Group is taking a thoughtful approach to integrating AI into its platforms, particularly in how user data is handled.
“We want to be super thoughtful about how users engage with AI and ensure it enhances the experience rather than detracts from it,” Iosotaluno said.
Transforming the Online Dating Experience
Match Group’s AI assistant represents a bold step in the evolution of online dating. By leveraging AI to simplify and optimize the user journey, the company aims to address current challenges while setting new standards for the industry. As the March 2025 launch approaches, all eyes will be on Match Group to see whether its AI-powered vision can reshape the dating landscape and rekindle user interest in its platforms.
