MATARIKI MUSINGS - A Space for Hope & Faith to Grow

Matariki has risen and gifted us a visible reminder to let the things that do not serve our best intentions fall away, practice remembrance for those we have lost, celebrate all that we have, and observe conditions and set our intentions for the year ahead.

The state of the world has given more of us the sense that our losses over this last year have been almost unbearable particularly as we observe them daily and in full colour across our social media feeds. The violence of conquest and poverty has always existed, it’s just now that we’re seeing the true cost of maintaining our ‘lifestyle’ choices globally. It isn’t pretty. In fact, for an ever-increasing number of us, the veil of the true cost of how we live has well and truly been lifted. Not only has the equity gap become a chasm but our humanity is at stake. Matariki has given us the space to reflect and reconcile all these things with our hope for the future and faith that it is within our power to create a different world.

As we set our course for the year ahead, it is with renewed hope for the future and the intention to hold on to the essential. For us the essential is community and the peace and purpose that comes from knowing that we have a place and role to fill in caring for people and prioritising collective benefit over individual interest in everything we do. We know that if we achieve collective wellbeing then our own is a given.

And so with the rising of Matariki and in considering our intentions for the year ahead, our drive and energy to do what we can to change the world has been reignited. We’ve come so far and moved so far beyond the 9 – 5 corporate model of success that there’s no going back. We also know that our communities thrive when given the opportunity to participate in radical collaboration; ethical business is not just a marketing strategy for us – it’s a way of being; and finally, living with empathy and meaning entails sacrifice and a commitment to never look away, but to hold true to our collective humanity without compromise or exception.

We carry the seeds of economic and social equity within us because our communities are rooted in interconnectivity and are expert at navigating an environment where everything has a causal connection. These are powerful gifts and as we grow our community so does our opportunity to be ?a force for change in the world.

What we have come to know is that the role of hope and faith in achieving equity and change cannot be underestimated. They are essential preconditions that keep our journey on course. They are also a whisper of the future reminding us of what we might become.

We’d love to have you join us on the journey. Reach out if you’re keen to cultivate hope for the future and change our world.
