MAT= Motivation, Ability, and Trigger (Part 3{ii}- Internal Trigger)

In previous 3 parts we discussed about Motivation, Ability and one part of Trigger i.e., External Trigger from the MAT model. In this part we discuss about other part of Trigger that is Internal Trigger. Here once again I want to reiterate that

3 ingredients in MAT model are required at the same time to initiate any behavior/ transaction.

Internal Trigger

External trigger is like morning alarm clock to trigger one what to do next, whereas Internal trigger manifest automatically in mind. In other word in the case of internal trigger, the information about what to do next is encoded as a learned association in the once memory.

Example

Accessing Instagram specially by teenagers is an appropriate example of internal trigger.

Emotions particularly negative ones- feelings of boredom, loneliness, frustration, confusion, and indecisiveness- are powerful internal trigger. However, positive emotions such as searching for solution can’t be ignored in identifying internal trigger.

New habits are sparked by external triggers, however, association with internal triggers are what keeps user hooked.
