Master's Students need PAL
Canada has recently introduced major updates for master's students and those applying for Permanent Residency (PR). These changes are important for those looking to study or immigrate to Canada. So, let's check the details of these updates:
Provincial Attestation Letter Requirement for Master's Students
A new requirement has been introduced for master's students applying for a study permit in Canada: the Provincial Attestation Letter. This letter is part of Canada's effort to manage and track applications more effectively under its capping policies. However, the necessity of this letter depends on the specifics of your master's program.
When You Need the Provincial Attestation Letter for Masters:
Foundation Courses: If you are enrolled in a foundation course as part of your master’s program, you will need an attestation letter. A foundation course is typically required if your previous education or professional experience does not align perfectly with your master’s program. These courses help bridge the gap and prepare you for advanced studies.
University Access Program (UAP):
If you do not meet the language proficiency requirements (like IELTS or PTE scores) for direct admission to your master's program, you will need to enroll in a UAP. Students in this program will also require an attestation letter.
The University of Canada West has notified students that those enrolled in MBAF or UAP programs must apply for the attestation letter through their website. Direct MBA students, who are not part of these programs, do not need to submit this letter.
If you have been admitted directly into a master's program without the need for foundation courses or UAP, you are exempt from this requirement. This exemption applies because direct master's programs do not fall under the capping regulations.
