The Masters: A golf lesson in creating great mobile experiences
For lovers of sport, The Masters at Augusta is a special spectacle. It is an event steeped in tradition and consistently spoilt for dramatic storyline.
The entire 'show' is manicured within an inch of its life from the length of the rough and the colour of the creek to the management of the final day jacket transfer. I was struck today by how this exceptional presentation continues in the mobile web experience, that in far too many high profile sporting events seems like a secondary concern to the organisers.
They have nailed the two primary use cases for mobile (1. get me up to speed on the days actions and: 2. allow me to dive deeper into the detail) in both the way they present it (user experience) and what they present (curation of the content).
The experience is visually rich and incredibly simple to navigate and the content is smartly curated especially with the video content which is structured into brilliant sub 3 minute packages - eg. The days overall highlights, player round summaries, and historical moments.

8 å¹´No surprise to hear you didn't miss a minute toddy. I was using their shot tracker feature as speith was imploding then trying to claw his way back. Brilliant last day brought to life incredibly online. Best, andrew

8 å¹´Completely agree! The best mobile app I could imagine. Living in Shanghai and limited for options to follow I struck it lucky with the app. This year it was a step beyond previous years. Not only could we follow the CBS coverage, I could switch to the feature group exclusively or just sit back and watch those beingbtested through amen corner. Or maybe even track each shot of the player of choice. And to think we need to wait another 12 months!
