TikTok announces updates to ads for teens and improved data control and transparency tools ??

The blog post from TikTok discusses several updates to their privacy policies and tools to improve data control and transparency. Here are the key points:

Limiting Data for Ads: TikTok is restricting the types of data that can be used to show ads to teens by region. In the United States, people aged 13 to 15 will no longer see personalized ads based on their activities off TikTok. In the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, people aged 13 to 17 will no longer see personalized ads based on their activities on or off TikTok.

Clear Activity Feature: TikTok is introducing a "Clear my activity" feature that allows users to clear their activity details that advertising partners and businesses have shared with TikTok. This could include interactions with advertising partners' apps or websites that may have been used to show them ads.

Content Transparency: TikTok is refining its approach to how content promoting brands, products, or services is labelled. Labels such as "ad/sponsored" (paid for by advertisers), "paid partnership" (which might be based on commission, partnership with a brand), or a new "promotional content" label (that indicates commercial content to promote your own business) will be used.

Limited Data Use Feature: To help facilitate advertiser's compliance with the right to opt-out of sale and sharing of personal data under certain U.S. state privacy laws, TikTok is launching a Limited Data Use ("LDU") feature. This feature gives businesses more control over how their event data is used in TikTok's systems and will be available in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah.

These updates are part of TikTok's ongoing efforts to prioritize the privacy and safety of its community, provide transparency, and offer users more control over their data.
