A few days ago, I came across a post from Adam Grant on how to avoid toxic positivity and build emotional agility. It made me reflect on my current challenging situation - being in between jobs - and how important it is to stay proactive and focused on personal and professional growth despite the difficulties. Over the years, I’ve learned a few things, and in this post, I'll share some useful insights and strategies that have helped me personally remain positive and maintain a strong mindset despite the natural turbulences I regularly navigate through. Perhaps it will provide some of you some support as you navigate through your own difficult times with resilience and optimism while equally acknowledging that change is not easy. ??
1. Networking: Your Gateway to Opportunities
Take every opportunity to expand your network, both physically and virtually. Attend conferences, set up virtual or in-person coffee meetings, and engage with others through text messages, LinkedIn, or phone conversations. These interactions can lead to new job opportunities or connections that open doors for you. You will be surprised at how fulfilling making these human connections can be. As I recently listed to a webinar, 80% of our next job will be through networking! ???
2. Rejection: A Stepping Stone to Growth
Don't take rejections personally; instead, view them as learning opportunities. Request feedback to identify the missing skills and work on improving them. Rejections can also lead to future opportunities or connections that may prove valuable. My own experience with this was applying for a job and not being the qualified candidate; however, the recruiter asked if I was interested in another opportunity she was working on! ???
3. Self-Care: The Foundation of Resilience
Take time to be kind to yourself and engage in activities that matter to you personally and professionally. Reconnect with friends you have lost touch with, explore new hobbies, and prioritize your well-being. Whether it's attending yoga puppy classes, journaling, or catching up on Netflix shows, make time for activities that bring you joy. I personally had a hard time slowing down as it is a new territory for me. However, taking this unexpected gift has brought me closer to my friends and family. I feel more centered when I can make good use of this time to expand on my personal growth. ??♂??
4. Broadening Horizons: Networking Beyond Your Field
?When networking, cast a wider net to gain a better understanding of what you want to do next. Engage in conversations with professionals from various industries to clarify your focus. This will help you identify future opportunities that align with your goals in a more personal way. ??
5. Balancing Act: Work and Personal Growth
Find a balance between work and personal growth. Connect with professionals on LinkedIn, look for relevant courses, and engage in activities that matter to you, such as going for a walk or listening to a podcast. This balance will keep you grounded and focused. ??

6. Choosing Positivity: Navigating with a Positive Attitude
While unexpected situations may arise, remember that you can only control your attitude towards them. See this time as a gift and choose to use it wisely. Embrace the opportunity for reflection and personal growth. ??
7. New Beginnings: Cultivating New Friendships
?During challenging times, some work friendships may change. Don't dwell on the past; instead, focus on forging new friendships and creating stronger connections with people who have been there for you throughout your journey. ??
8. Patience and Trust: Believing in Your Journey
Remember that you have planted seeds and created pathways. It is easy to feel demotivated when you don't hear back from a job you applied for; trust that it takes time to see the fruits of your labor. Have patience and remain committed to your journey. ???
I hope these reflections resonate with you and provide guidance during these challenging times. Embrace growth, build connections, and stay proactive as you navigate through this period. By reframing these challenging times as growth opportunities, you can overcome the tough times that come our way and emerge stronger than ever. ??
If any of the ideas resonated with you, please leave a comment and let me know what it was. If you would like to chat about what I shared or about anything else, send me a DM. Would love to connect! ??

Project Lead/Change Management
1 年Love this well-rounded message and it is so important to maintain that balance through disruptive change. Change IS hard, and can also deliver opportunities for growth we may not have expected. For me, ensuring I maintain balance allows me to get out of my own way and open up avenues I may otherwise miss. ??
