Eva was in charge of leading a team of cloud engineers who were working on a project for a major client. The project involved migrating the client’s data and applications from their on-premise servers to a cloud platform. The project had a tight deadline and a high level of complexity.

Eva had to make sure that her team was working efficiently and effectively, and that they were following the best practices and standards for cloud computing. She also had to communicate with the client regularly and update them on the progress and challenges of the project.

One day, Eva received an email from the client, asking her to join a video call with them. The client wanted to discuss some changes in their requirements and expectations for the project. Eva felt a surge of anxiety and frustration. She knew that changing the scope of the project at this stage would mean more work, more risk, and more stress for her and her team.

She felt like ignoring the email and postponing the call until later. She wanted to focus on the tasks that she had already planned and assigned to her team. She didn’t want to deal with the uncertainty and complexity of the new changes.

Eva realized that she had an instinct to act on the goal of meeting the client’s needs and delivering a successful project. She also realized that she had only 5 seconds to act on that instinct before her brain would talk her out of it.

She decided to use the 5 second rule to overcome her hesitation and fear. She started counting backwards to herself from 5 to 1: 5-4-3-2-1. As soon as she hit “1”, she pushed herself to reply to the email and accept the invitation for the video call. She also notified her team about the call and asked them to join her.

By using the 5 second rule, Eva was able to take action on her goal and initiate a conversation with the client. She was able to listen to their concerns and requests, and explain the implications and challenges of the new changes. She was able to negotiate a reasonable compromise that satisfied both parties. She was also able to update her team on the new requirements and expectations, and revise their strategy and plan accordingly.

The 5 second rule helped Eva to be more proactive, responsive, and adaptable in her role as a Senior Team Lead. It helped her to overcome procrastination, resistance, and fear, and take action on what mattered most. It helped her to lead her team more effectively and deliver a successful cloud solution for their client.

The special report was meant to cover the background, policies, campaigns, and prospects of the candidates and parties who were running for office. Raghav felt honored and excited by the invitation. He knew that this was a great opportunity for him to showcase his skills and knowledge to a wider audience. He also knew that he had a lot of valuable information and insights to share with the team.

But he also felt nervous and doubtful. He wondered if he had enough time and resources to join the team, while also managing his regular assignments. He wondered if he had enough expertise and credibility to participate in the special report. He wondered if his research and analysis would be accepted and appreciated by the other team members.

He felt like declining the invitation and staying in his comfort zone. He wanted to focus on his regular duties and avoid the extra work and pressure of joining the team. He didn’t want to deal with the uncertainty and complexity of the special report.

He decided to use the 5 second rule to overcome his hesitation and fear. He started counting backwards to himself from 5 to 1: 5-4-3-2-1. As soon as he hit “1”, he pushed himself to reply to the email and accept the invitation for joining the team. He also thanked the editor-in-chief for the opportunity and expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

He was able to collaborate with them and create a comprehensive and effective report on the elections. He was also able to learn from them and improve his own skills and knowledge.
