Step 1: Identify Your State ?? Are you in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn mode? Recognize the fear and acknowledge it. It's okay to feel scared; it means you're human. Let's break down these states:

  • Fight: You feel the need to spring into action and confront the situation head-on. This fear stems from a survival instinct.
  • Flight: The instinct to run away from the situation as fast as you can, seeking escape from the perceived threat or challenge.
  • Freeze: Paralysis sets in; you're unable to move or make decisions. This state can leave you feeling stuck and overwhelmed.
  • Fawn: Giving in or trying to please others to avoid conflict or discomfort. It involves prioritizing external validation over personal needs.

Step 2: Thank Your Brain ?? Your brain is wired to protect you. Thank it for its intention to keep you safe. Now, question if this fear is based on a real threat to your life or your loved ones. Often, our fears are about the unknown, not actual danger.

Step 3: Feel Into the Fear and Shake It Off ??♂? Locate the fear in your body. Is it a tightness in your chest or butterflies in your stomach? Shake it off physically or go and do a workout, a run or something that is physically challenging. Sometimes, the simple act of movement can break the grip of fear.

Step 4: Take Strategic Action ?? Turn fear into fuel for action. Whether it's a pending deadline or the fear of losing something, use that energy to propel yourself forward. Try the 6-6-6-6 breathing technique to reset your nervous system. Action is the antidote to fear – it can be as simple as taking a walk, talking to someone, or making a list of small, achievable tasks.

Step 5: Leverage Fear as a Tool ??? Remember, fear is temporary. It will pass. Instead of letting it paralyze you, ask yourself, "How can I leverage this fear?"
