Mastering the Hope System: A Path to Achieving Your Dreams”

All of our lives are based on a lot of hopes,

you hope to become skinnier

you hope to score better grades

you hope to earn more

You hope to be successful and have more fame.

And you cannot deny this fact: all of our lives depend simply on a system of hopes, whether it is about making the world a better place to live or anything else.

Hope is fundamental to our psychology, as follows:

  1. We need something to look forward to
  2. We need to have the belief that we are in control of our fate and can achieve that.
  3. We need a group that is running towards the same goal, towards the same end.

All of our groups and all of our religions follow this simple loop :

Experiences → Emotions →Values → Narratives of meaning

People with similar narratives of meaning come together to form a group. The more effective a religion, the more disciplined the aspirants are, thus making it easier to spread the religion, giving lost people a sense of purpose and hope that they are in control of something.

After all, that is how we work, we want proof that we are in control of certain things to live a happy and eventful life. As these religions spread, conflicts are created against groups that oppose their values, and people come together for their sense of being.

This conflict helps maintain the group’s purpose as the members get determined to follow and spread their religion.

That’s how a system of hope works, even though we leave religion behind. This applies to our friend circle too; our friend circle is based on the same fact that people with similar beliefs come together to form a group.

Hope requires things to be different and not in place so that we can live a life with the hope of changing those things and making them better. It requires us to be against something.

The reality is that everything is already messed up, and Mark Manson, referring to the teachings of Nietzsche, talks about giving up on hope.

What does this mean?

This implies that rather than hoping to be something, be that thing, rather than trying to become better, simply be better.

Accept that everyone is going to die in the end, and whatever you do will ultimately get lost in the infinite cosmos. Rather than wasting time finding hope to act just act.

In the coming stories, we will be talking about Amor Fati, a similar teaching of Nietzsche, and the reason behind messed-up habits.
