Mastering expectations in M&A

Individuals may enter marriages with a set of expectations that can blind them to realistic outcomes. According to various resources that is also one of the reasons of divorce. One party's set of expectations can be different than the other person’s set, and when it comes to marriage, expectations can create conflicts even before the couple gets together.

The same is true for the "marriage" of companies. The expectations of the selling side might be totally different than the one on the purchasing side. 

When we advise our clients who are looking for a partner we say "You are free to expect anything concerning your future but don't have any expectation on what the other side plans to deliver. Chances are it will be something you don't expect."

Accepting what you are offered is another story. :-)
