Aligning your career with your personal and professional aspirations is something a lot of us have never been taught.

Let's be honest.

College didn't get anywhere close.

The reason for my degrees had [a LOT] more to do with "what they'll say" (Spanish expression from sort of "keeping up with the Jones') than anything.

My mom and dad were cool - I love them to death.

But their careers and their times had nothing to do with mine.

When I went to college 6K miles away from home, they pretended like they knew what I was up to.

But they didn't have a clue.

Nor did I expected them to.

They hoped that the crazy tuition fees would help me get there.

Eventually we realized that those tuition fees just "put you there". On the "spot".

But I still had to figure my stuff out.

Took too long to see that.

Being apologetic for others, for the systems, for our decisions.

Until I realized that this all (your career) wasn't just about getting a job;

it was about ensuring your work complements your LIFE, and not the other way around.

finding the right and enhances your personal growth and overall happiness.

Understanding the Depth of Career Alignment

True Career Alignment entails having all thing personal in it.

Forget "work-life balance". It's a myth - you can't equate work to the size of life.

It's sort of saying that an apple equates to the tree.

It doesn't. It's just part of the tree.

So your Career needs to follow suit. To you. To your life.

Understanding and aligning your personal values, strengths, and long-term goals to your career will not only get you into [massive] alignment,

But also make you a very congruent candidate to those out there.

This alignment should reflect not only in the type of work you do but also in the companies and cultures you choose to engage with.

In-Depth Self-Assessment:

I always recommend to do Mindwork here.

Particularly, Self-Image work.

For various reasons, but if anything, I see a lot of clients need alignment in the sense that they don't really see the incredible value an impact they exert on the work place.

It's kind of crazy.

When I show them, they're impressed.

That's why it's key that you regularly evaluate your skills, passions, and objectives to ensure they align with your career path.

And adjust accordingly.

Goal Setting and Adjustment:

Set clear, actionable goals

That sounds like what everybody says.

Now the key here is to note that those goals may shift a lot.

At least at the beginning when you're experimenting.

It's ok.

There's nothing wrong with you.

Be prepared to adjust them as your career progresses and as new opportunities arise.

You may like something better tomorrow.

Strategic Networking and Positioning

Then after all this journey, it's time to:

Align yourself with people and organizations that share your values and can aid in achieving your career goals.

This is a pinnacle step.

This will augment your impact 10x - if you nail it of course.

Surround yourself with people that are on the same boat and you'll see your future change.

Let me say that again.

Expanding on the Impact of True Alignment

Once you set yourself on this path, you'll start seeing that,

Fulfilment leads to output.

Output leads to job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction will lead to innovation.

And innovation will lead to leadership.
