Mastering Calm in Chaos: A Simple Technique to Overcome Stress Instantly

Mastering Calm in Chaos: A Simple Technique to Overcome Stress Instantly

Stress is a common part of life, from high-stakes meetings to public speaking and big life decisions. As a CFP? professional at Ethos Capital, I’ve seen how nervousness, rapid breathing, and anxiety can impact my clients and colleagues alike. Over the years, I’ve developed a technique that helps me navigate even the most intense moments with calm and focus. At 57, I still use this technique in my professional life, the KTHV, Little Rock appearances on numerous financial topics is a great example in my life.

A Mindful Shortcut to Calmness

In my personal journey, meditation became my anchor. But there was one specific part that changed everything: a hand gesture—placing my left thumb, index finger, and middle finger together. Initially, I practiced this in meditation, but soon I realized that this simple gesture could bring me back to that calm state in real-time, whether in a job interview, public speaking, or even during a live TV segment.

How You Can Try It

If stress sometimes overwhelms you, here’s a method you can try:

  1. Start with Meditation or Deep Breathing: In a quiet place, focus on relaxed breathing, visualizing stress fading with each exhale.
  2. Choose a Gesture: This could be the same fingers-together gesture I use or another small movement. Repeat it during meditation to “anchor” your calm state to the gesture.
  3. Practice in Everyday Life: Use the gesture in low-stress moments to make it a familiar tool. With practice, it can bring you back to calm even in high-stress situations.

A Lasting Path to Calm

In every career and personal journey, there are challenges that test our nerves. But cultivating a reliable anchor for calmness lets us approach these moments with confidence and composure. For anyone facing big decisions or transitions, this technique can help you find peace of mind in the moment.
