"Mastering the Art of Decision-Making: Strategies for Confident and Effective Choices"

"What decision did you take in any situation, will write the further story of your life.”~ JEAN PAUL

If I think of what is an honest purpose of this article then as a part of my contribution, I want our society/friend zone to be a better society in the process of thinking rather than being a sentimental society, we should be an intellectual society as well. In social or day to day discussion, there should be some depth, thought process should be better ; than getting swayed away by rumours or emotions. This topic also becomes important because there never have been so much information surrounding us, as much as it is coming now a days. And that too in audio-visual format. No individual can be prevented from this excessive overflow. ?

Many of us have to take big and important decisions of their life which will have significant effects on our future, whether it would be selection of streams after 10th, selection of course in college, selection of good friends, selection of mates, taking stands on present day political issues and many more. And it is well established fact that decision making was difficult in every era and is most difficult in today’s era.

So a few precautionary steps which must be taken while making decisions, so that the chances of making mistakes might lowers down are:

1} Impartiality or Neutrality

The very first step is to see whether you are fair and neutral before diving into the decision making process. Before talking on any topic, it is necessary to see whether we have already taken a decision? And the biggest issue that I found out here in our society is that the decisions have already been made, and the ideas and thoughts comes later. The correct process being to think first and then decide, but the decision comes first.

A very good scholar of history in one of his books proves that “no matter whatever you say about history, ultimately whatever is fixed in the mind of historian, he proves only that, no matter how many proofs are there, how many facts are there.”

It is very interesting to note that even in our universities as well, the teachers are divided whether they are Marxist or Nationalist. And I think that how the person who holds the responsibility of teaching and providing guidance to youth are bound to see things by one specific ideology. They doesn’t have so much ideological courage that some other ideology can have better opinion than theirs on the same issue.

The work of universities is to give right direction to the society and if it is lacking there then how can we expect the same in our society? So the first step is to be neutral, because if you have already made the decision, then it is useless to discuss as you will be looking for those arguments , which will prove the fact which has already been proven in your mind at conscious or sub conscious level.

?2 }Fair input collection

Now while moving towards judgement, what all we need to know before deciding on that issue is input collection. The Inputs you will take must be adequate, don’t be in haste. Many a times it also happens that you heard one side, you felt that it is authentic enough to decide , but the other side can be dramatically different that it becomes so important that after listening to it you feel that the decision could not have been taken. That is why no matter how much convincing a side is , the whole family, whole religion, whole society ,whole politics, whole friends group are speaking on one side, even then it has to be kept in mind that there is another side as well. And until and unless you see the other side of the coin, you will not be able to get closer to the truth. ?

3} Void generalization

Generalizing whole group or sub group on the basis that all other people of the group would be same as them is considered as illicit generalization. For example : Considering that all people of South Delhi are like this or people of a particular religion are like this, is totally nonsense. It is highly possible that the people about interacted with are exceptions of that particular religion or area , and you are generalizing the whole group on the basis of your experience with just a few of that area. Why to have same perception about everyone? That is why it is very important that you should not make too many generalizations while making decisions.

4} Fallacy in logic

The binary or dichotomy of philosophical world also known as all or nothing concept, or as black and white, which simply means that while deciding we must be either standing on this side or that side and we are not ready to think apart from these two that there can be a third, fourth or fifth way also. We are ready to be on the extremes always which is not always the answer. Like thinking that a particular man is either good or bad, either honest or dishonest, either loyal or unfaithful , whereas nothing like this happens in reality. The man is good and bad, honest and dishonest, loyal and unfaithful, it is only the ratio/proportion that differs between the qualities. Some one is 20% good and 80% bad while other is 40% good and 60% bad. Its only the game of proportion.

I hope with the help of these all point, we all would be able to take more correct and genuine decisions or stands in our life, which will frame a better future.
