This year I wanted to take my mum away for a trip she wouldn’t forget, but that’s not easy when your mum is nearly 80 and struggles to walk very far.
My mother is South African; she talks incessantly about wildlife, and I just wanted one more “once in a lifetime” opportunity for her. But taking her on Safari to some far-flung location was not an option.
I racked my brains, looked at numerous options and after talking to a few friends, I realised that the answer was on my doorstep.
I was going to take her to West Midlands Safari Park.
I can hear the unimpressed sighs already, but hear me out…
In April 2021 – the West Midlands Safari Park unveiled their ‘golden goose’… a collection of stunning lodges and cottages in the park itself. By August 2022, MD Christopher Kelly announced the next phase of their plan: new habitats, housing and facilities being built for their bachelor group of lions and four new lodges (all subject to planning permission).
While I was there, the consultant in me pondered the conversations around the boardroom; I considered how the vision, mission, strategy, programme and projects all came together.?Of course, it's not a new concept, but it's impressive nonetheless.

It's clear to see that they have been working hard on their long-term investment strategy, and it is clear from their order book that their plans are paying off.
I’ve no doubt there will have been several hurdles along the way, but from concept to creation, this really is a stunning example of programme and project delivery.
So bravo to all the staff at West Midlands Safari Park; you really have made a lot of people very happy.
If you need a break from work and don’t have the time to travel to faraway lands, this magical experience is right here in the UK. ??
Two weeks on, we’re still filled with wonder about what we experienced…everyone involved in this endeavour should be extremely proud.?
