As a portrait photographer I’m always looking for hidden layers behind a person. What do we experience behind the beauty of a face? Last week I made this portrait of a girl who just walked out a Rembrandt painting.
Coming week I will give a masterclass ‘portrait photography' to forensic profilers. Nice challenge to invite these crime scene investigators into a new way of looking. Nowadays we all take photographs on our mobiles and we can make images perfectly as we want. Or course ‘Portrait Photography’ is not about technique or perfection. As the little prince said: whats essential is invisible to the eyes. If we look differently we see hidden qualities.
Children often reflect the quality of ‘purity’ and ‘authenticity’. And what do we mean by ‘authentic’? The Oxford dictionary says: 'The quality of being truthful. Reliability. Trust-worthiness.’
This girls mother said ‘I never saw this part of my daughter’. Yes! I’m very much looking forward to inspire these vigilant profilers by the unseen.
